2026 Hurricanes Off Season Thread

My wife and I are on Martha’s Vineyard for the week. I parked on the street in Edgartown earlier today and put on a Hurricanes baseball cap when I got out of the car. A couple were walking up the street and he said “love the hat”. He was wearing a shirt from Doherty’s Pub. I told him that I loved his shirt and had pregamed there once during inclement tailgating weather.

We got a LOT of kind words while wearing our Canes gear in Vancouver last month.

The Panthers dig is blasphemy, don't even go there with me. I have a pretty good memory (when it works). I wish I knew how many players have struggled, bled, and poured out their souls to hope to get a crack at making it on the Cup. Then this goes down and it's worse than not right. It cheapens the greatest trophy in sports. Am I the only one who gives a {Polar's word} about the history of the Stanley Cup? It's not supposed to be for amateurs, posers, or frauds. I'm sure it will gradually stop weighing so heavily on my mind, but I'm not there yet. Dead horse roundup, right? I just take someone earning their name onto the Cup very seriously, and I remain offended at this obnoxious stunt. I'm still not over it for the time being, that's all.

Hey Jim … for the record, I do care about the names on the Cup issue but I’ve expressed my concerns and moved on. Because at the end of the day, I can’t do anything about it. I feel the same way about the Kaiton/Forslund stuff. It was out of my hands and a long time ago and it still gets brought up fairly regularly. So, get there however you need to … no pushback from me. I would, however, love to think we won’t still be talking about it in 2036. :)
 
We have 4 cats, not counting my daughter's cat who is living at home while she commutes for her final undergrad semester.

This is what I always tell non-cat people about cats. EVERY cat has a demon inside of them. The demon doesn't always surface, but it is definitely in there, and may decide to take control at any point in time. This is why a cat will lash out and bite or claw you at any moment for what may seem like no good reason.

I grew up with dogs. But I would much rather as an adult have cats. I don't have to walk a cat in the pouring rain or during a freezing morning. I don't have to burden someone else with 'letting the cat out or walking the cat' multiple times a day if we are away on vacation. Just scoop their litter box once a day, fill the food bowl, and they are good. Cats are independent, dogs are like having children all over again, no thanks!

We have two cats right now, but at heart I'm a dog person. However, we had to put our sweet JiJi down about two months ago and I can't see getting another dog. JiJi was just so perfect that I don't know if there's another dog that could ever truly replace her.
 
If Dundon had been the first and only idiot to put non essential names on the cup I might care more. But he wasn't the first nor will he be the last. He's just the ONLY one media and other people care to shit all over.

You'll get there. Murphy is our family's third dog, and while I still miss his two predecessors, he has brought so much joy to us that I can't imagine not getting another one. It tooks us about six months after we lost our beloved Violet to decide to get another one and we welcomed Murphy a few months later.
 
At one point, we had a neutered golden retriever/Irish setter mix and 3 cats. Two of the cats were rescues and hadn’t been weaned, so they latched onto the dog and would try to nurse on him. He’d let them to a point, then grumble and walk away.

We had a cat that would play like a dog. I’d lay on the floor and he’d retrieve toys and chase them like a dog would.

I grew up with a dog in the house and before JiJi, my wife and I had two other dogs. But JiJi, she was something special. Every living being she met was her BFF. She was just so perfect.
