2026 Hurricanes Off Season Thread

Invisalign Arena which just seems to run off the tongue after coaching youth hockey over there the better part of the last few years has been officially changed to Lane Arena...it seems the jovial dentists that work out of those Roman Coliseum offices around the Triangle are doing well for themselves.

Both of my kids had braces, neither were at Lane. The youngest did have Invisalign though, her sister didn’t. Her teeth didn’t need as much correction as her sister’s.
 
Looks like the Canes signed Pierre Olivier Joseph to a one year deal at the league minimum on a one way deal. A left shot D, 27 years old.
 
Brind'Amour got a guarantee of $225k, $100k more than his AHL contract. That probably makes him the first call up if a center is required, it’s somewhere around 20 days on a NHL roster.
 
I guess Primeau becomes the resident third goalie on the depth chart that every team now pretty much needs and to do that I guess the third needs to be paid a guaranteed, one way NHL contract as a sweetener. I would assume Primeau would still need to clear waivers once the Canes return him to Chicago after camp is done? Sawchenko becomes the fourth on the depth chart.

Yes, he’d need to clear waivers. But the 2 year contract might give teams pause if they want to claim him, as happened last year.
 
After last year's mess with waivers, this gives them multiple options if and when somebody gets snagged. Bussi might have worked out last year but the odds of pulling off that trick two seasons in a row are slim to say the least. They've got a couple of goalies who can be the No. 3 and a couple of D who can be the veterans in Chicago. Now we sit back and see where everybody lands.
 
With the rest of the roster business getting handled, the spotlight on Nikishin is starting to get a little warmer. The Hurricanes have between $8-9 million in the immediate term to sign Nikishin, which should be more than enough. From there it comes down to details and desire ... for both sides. Do you want to be here? Do the Canes want you here at the price it will take to sign you? Is this a short term deal while we all sort out the big picture or is this a long term commitment? I don't think anybody has all those answers right now. Which is fine, I guess. The Canes have set about making sure they have the bodies to compete with or without Nikishin.

We're getting down to brass tacks on the calendar though. Carolina hasn't really had an RFA contract issue since Dundon bought the club, so there's no real history to go by. Somebody's probably going to bring up non player contract issues but those are apples to dogs so far as I'm concerned. Dundon certainly gives off the vibe of a guy who would rather trade a player than to get pressured into paying him outside of Carolina's contract value projection, but it's just a vibe for now. You would think that the Canes would prefer this get done before camp opens, but that's also just an assumption.
 
Yeah. People are predictably overreacting to that, but it's going to be a fairly long while before Jarvis is cleared to take contact.
