Example 1: Don’t totally agree. The virus mutated very quickly and previous infections had limited benefits, especially for delta and omicron.

Example 2 is legit.

Example 3 is bogus. It protected the vulnerable by reducing its severity (and reduce hospitalization) contracted, not the spread. That what masks and hand washing were for. That was a deliberate conflation, IMO.

Anyway, the final “scorecard” is clear. The results for the US are embarrassing and tragic, especially for such a wealthy and technologically advanced country. The biggest problem with the mandate was that too people oppositional defiance disorder “did their own research” and resisted for cultural/political reasons, with dire consequences.

From living in the US, there is a lot of bad apples, but the government not being forthcoming and withholding crucial information in favor of a unified public safety message only fueled more distrust in the government.

From the previous points, #3 is not bogus, Vaccine was sold as taking one for the team and protecting the vulnerable, which was obviously not the case. It's a wildly different decision whether you take an unproven medicine to protect yourself or to protect others.
 
It has also been proven that people that got previously infected with Covid had much lower risks of further complications. My main issue is that there was no space allowed for those discussions, it was binary, you either follow the official line or you'll be discredited forever.
 
It was binary. It needed to be binary. The people resisting were doing so simply to be contrarians. At some point, the willfully ignorant need to be told that they are too stupid to have opinions and that they simply need to shut up and do as they're told.

It really didn’t. Complicated issues never are. And many contrarians were proven right. But of course the righteous follow the government orders people would never admit it.

Even when Houle was GM and ownership only wanted to pinch pennies we were rumored to be in on every big name free agent and trade target. and that was even before "clicks" had been properly monetized. But pretty much every single player mentioned signed in a US market.
