not sure how it will pan out but it’s a great risk for the Leafs to take. Their D is moribund

8 years deal for a guy that has been a NHL regular for 3 seasons and just had an outlier of a career year is a risky gamble at best.

If he'd had 2 or 3 seasons like last year he'd be getting $12m. It's a great gamble at $8.5m. You don't fluke into that type of season.

His underlying metrics for the past two years are encouraging

It’s not like the Leafs had a lot of options or much time - they are in win now mode

If none of this works, they blow it all up in a few years

The end of the contract probably doesn't look great, but that's a problem for future Leafs. $8.5 is a lot less percentage of the cap in 6-8 years from now.

It only cost a 5th, so really, they paid a 5th and avoided having to outbid 10 other teams.

The Raddysh deal isn’t terrible. They can move him after year 5 if need be and the NHL is rife with stories of late blooming D. They filled a desperate need hoping he’ll be at this level for several years. They really had no point shot on the PP.

Skeptical re: Raddysh, but he will continue to get TOI and PP time with TML.

JT Miller is a notorious cunt. He is toxic. Hughes left because he didn't want to play for a bottom team.
