The other thing about this team - slow as fuck. We couldn't skate into their zone, or around them on the rush, or away from them when being pursued. I think lack of speed was the #1 reason we lost the games we did.

Hi Brendan

I'm generally not a fan of Marner / Matthews and haven't been for a while, but it still strikes me as a major turning point that was out of their control. I tried to be explicit in saying I'm not making excuses for them. I would look into trading Matthews tbh, but unfortunately by now everyone might recognize him as a guy who doesn't perform when the going gets tough.

The NMC for the last year of his deal was a brainddead move by "I'm smart look at my glasses" guy, but honestly at least in hindsight we can say that they should have looked into trading him even before that became an issue. A lot easier said than done maybe, but they've probably been too cautious.
