Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

ah crap this was the wrong thread.

anyways - yeah spezza has been kinda bad.....but tbh he's been one of the few clutch guys for us when we really needed a goal the past couple of years, and he's the only guy on the 2nd PP unit that can actually QB that unit, so i still have a bit of a hard time keeping him out of the lineup.

yeah a second unit PP goal could be the difference in a game. I don't think anything Clifford or the current Simmonds do is going to be the difference in a playoff game. maybe once upon a time, but not now.

I don't mind not having the same lineup every game. the Cliff-Simmonds combo did have a nice game or two for us against good opponents no? (was Boston one of them?)

Spezza might really be at the end. maybe he's got a tiny bit left for the playoffs if we rest him down the stretch?

1 goal since Feb 1st.

The olds need rest. Look how good Wayner looked after sitting for a few days. The plan should be for Spezza to play 50-60 games, not 70-80. Should be treating him like a starting goalie. Sit him against the shit teams, get him rest and keep him fresh. Guy can be a huge difference maker on the 4th line.

With that said... And it breaks my heard to say this... I don't think I sign him next year. Wayne is already on the books and another year older for both of those guys makes me skeptical. It has been a tremendously unsuccessful fourth line this year and they're a big part of the reason why. Spezza going in god mode in the playoffs again could change my mind, but for now I think I'm out. He has clearly taken a significant step back, which was not unexpected unfortunately.

Lol I absolutely love this.

Chris Pronger: A lot of people think $30 million USD is a lot over five years. But did you know that hockey players also need to pay taxes and spend money on transportation, food, and a place to live? I bet you didn't think about that.
i would have liked it more if he spent the energy on the keeping up with the jonesys culture or having your parents steal the money

did you know that on a 100k salary for 5 years that after taxes and expenses you are only left with negative 20k!

Yeah he was on to something because a high percentage of athletes do end up broke within the first 5-10 years post-retirement. But acting like it's because they don't make enough money is quite the take.
