Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I think with that one they're probably thinking because he has stick on puck the pushing of the pad is incidental. Same as if you have the puck and you try to jam on a wrap around.

Also, fuck Ovy.

Not sure what else he could do with that chance there. Just not try to jam it in and concede the play. Feels like the right call.

Can't push the goalies pad into the net. We just had a goal rightfully get waved off the other night when Kallgren's pad was pushing into the net. The goalie has the right to their space and posture.

Seems like simultaneous pushing of the loose puck, attempting to direct it into the corner of the net, and resulting pushing of the pad, but almost incidental.

If anything, it kind of looks like the goalie gave up the area and pulled his leg back a bit. I dunno, feels right for that to count.

I actually have no idea what the rules for the crease are now though. If the goalie is supposed to be protected and has the right to the crease space then ya, probably shouldn't be allowed even if he is pushing the puck.

eh with us the puck was under the pad and covered and he literally just pushed the pad in to push the puck in (and if you listen the whistle actually blew first).

in this one the puck is always loose and the stick is always on the puck.

I swear there was another one recently where the puck was loose and I argued the exact same thing and it was no goal. Anyone else remember or am I losing my mind?

There is no such thing as incidental contact with a goalie in the crease.

There are only horribly bad calls by on ice officials. But according to the rules, this is black and white. If contact with a goalie caused them to be unable to make a save (or even just potentially in position to make a save), it's goalie interference. The only time this should be overlooked is if the contact occurs independent of the puck going in (as in, the puck is already behind the goalie and then contact is made.

A goaltender is entitled to any location within their crease, at all times. Refs fuck this up way too often. This is what made Wilson running Jack so ridiculous. The impetus is on the skater, 100% of the time to do everything possible (including not jumping the defender for the inside line at full speed) to not hit the goalie inside the crease.

Those aren’t the same.

When the puck is loose and the shooter is trying to jam it in and his stick is on the puck, I don’t think the rule requires that he must give way and let the goalie have it. If the goalie’s glove or pad was on it, that’d be different, but when the puck is loose in front of him? I don’t think it’s a bad call.
