Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I can't believe Bettman is still pretending like everything is fine there. Quebec has a new arena. Houston has an arena. Its an easy fix.
To not be allowed to put your logo on the ice is crazy. Shows how little bargaining power they had. And they obviously are very worried Coyotes will skip out on the bill at some point.

That's what I don't get. How are players agreeing to this and owners as well? They arrived in Arizona in 1996. There's been problems for a quarter century

I hadn’t even thought about the fact that the Coyotes wouldn’t even be able to put their logo at center ice.

Should have been obvious in retrospect, since to the university, they’re the equivalent of a broke, homeless dude that’s being allowed to sleep on the couch.

The next revelation will probably be that the Coyotes won’t be allowed to use ASU’s dressing room, so instead they’ll have to use an old high school portable that Merulo bought at a surplus auction and set up in the parking lot outside the arena.

Sounds like a great logo, actually.

Quebec's arena isn't brand new so it's already obsolete. I'm sure that will be the excuse not to relocate there. The real reason is that they just don't wanna, and to be fair, it's unlikely that any players want to play there either. None of the elite ones, at least, and that means that the team would never be that good and would just have to eventually move.

But you can golf 365 days a year and there's no media or fan pressure. It's a dream location for lazy players who don't care about winning.

Houston has an NHL arena ?
The Toyota Center, which apparently has a capacity of 17,800 for hockey, although I'm always leery of arenas made for basketball that are also used for hockey. The sight lines tend not to be so good. But from what I can see, this particular facility (opened in 2003, which makes it kind of old by the standards used in pro sports today) was built to be multi-purpose rather than the old America West Arena in Phoenix or the old Key Arena in Seattle, where the hockey rink had to be shoehorned in by removing all the seats behind one goal.

Obviously the Videotron Centre in Quebec City is a better and newer hockey venue, but we know that none of that matters to the NHL.

Hopefully the Leafs continue using that pull. Nothing would be more annoying than some shitty upstart franchise moving in to town and then winning before the Leafs.

Fans of Toronto team #2 would probably be even more annoying than Sens fans (back when they still existed) too.

Hey, Montreal’s a big hockey market too. Why not have a second team in Montreal?

They’ve got a history of having multiple teams too. One of my grandmothers was a Montreal Maroons fan back in the day. Bring back the Maroons and give the Anglos their own team again!!
