Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Toronto's a weird place for NFL fandom, not having a local team has obviously led to people cheering for many different teams, for many different reasons. However the Bills are definitely in 1st place and it's not particularly close.

Legit surprised you couldn't get into NFL. Once you get passed the BS it's a great sport to watch with many last minute lead changes.

I love football. For me it's baseball I couldn't give a darn about but that's because of the Expos fiasco.

I grew up in one of the great Habs ages so I also don't know if i would be as interested in hockey today as a youngster. They really should be putting out movies for kids and fans alike.
For some people - like me - I need a stake in something to care. Toronto never had an NFL team, so I never could get into that league by adopting another team or just falling in love with the sport and watching random games (I don’t even do that with the NHL - highlights are enough and more efficient). Not sure if that’s a reason why Mindz doesn’t give a shit about it, but it’s absolutely my reason. I’ve never watched an NFL game beginning to end.

Football is the easiest sport to get into because you only have to dedicate one day a week to pay attention, and you only have to actually pay attention for like 15 minutes of a game.

Unless you're really into fantasy football. Then it's several days a week.

Yeah, definitely no disputing there's a huge number of Bills fans in Toronto.

I didn't grow up in a football household though, my dad played pro hockey and grew up in Mimico so Leafs were always on (Gilmour/Clark era) and the Jays were always on (and winning WS). If there was a Toronto NFL team, would I have watched and gone to games at some point? Definitely. But a Buffalo team probably wasn't drawing me in.

Of course, then Josh Allen won me a fantasy league so we're friends now.

What? Thursday night, Friday night, Sat near the end of the season, Sunday from 1pm til like 1am and then again Monday night.

I guess if you have 1 team then it's once a week.

I remember when there were legit rumblings of TO getting a team. I always thought it could support one. Half the draw at orchard park are Canadians.

Hey, what do they do at the border on game day? Do they just let it flow? Curious.

I remember them saying Minnesota was moving to TO.

They let it flow pretty good. Also a couple crossings close to the Ralph so you can usually get across in a decent time. Plus, you know, Nexus.

Having a favourite team from a young age is a huge factor in loving any sport and being loyal to a team, I would agree. Gambling is a pretty good way to get into it too. If you couldn't care less about a random mid-season game between the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos, put some money on one of them and you will suddenly care quite a bit, lol.

Football is super entertaining, though. Baseball and hockey are my 2 favourite sports, but if I'm going to watch a full game in any sport that doesn't involve my favourite team, it would be an NFL game. You're definitely missing out, LOF.

And baseball is the best sport for fantasy. By FAR.

Taking advnatage of gambling promotions and milking them dry is the new version of churning. It is a blast.

I hedge every bet though so I still don't care about the results of the games, but I get the appeal.

Football was definitely not part of my school culture growing up even. We had a football team only two out of four of my high school years, they weren't particularly good, few people played it outside of that. The hockey boys were the popular jocks and ran the school.

Plus Mac-Action Tuesdays, and SEC Saturdays. Then the ABC Saturday nighter. Football is August-February and it's awesome
Yeah once you throw in college football the week gets pretty saturated.

In my mind its

Football/Hockey

NBA

Soccer

MLB

Football and Hockey are the ultimate team games with a lot of physical action. Straight to my veins.

Makes sense. My older brothers played in HS then I followed suit so I did have influence from older siblings. They were all Raiders fans and I just couldn't. I mean Raiders? Blah.
