Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I know Gretz has been super gracious about the subject to the media, but I have to wonder how he really feels. Especially since I’ve always seen him as somewhat of an arrogant guy. An insane record that no one ever really thought would be broken, he must’ve felt pretty sure it was safe even up until just a couple years ago. If he tells OV to break a leg before a game, would it be something he’d mean literally…

I feel like Gretzky puts the league above his own personal accomplishments, and would love the excitement of watching any player chase his records.

Greztky's goal scoring dropped off so hard in the 2nd half of his career. He could have had 1000.

He feels like a Robertson-type, needs offensive minutes to produce - so hopefully Seattle gives him some ice-time.

Isn't Wayne Ukrainian? He might actually hate ovie but he won't let it show. He will just enjoy his name being in the spotlight but annoyed he has to follow ovie around once he gets close to breaking it.

Polish.

Anyway, no matter how Gretz feels about it, I’d certainly like to see Putin’s bitch suffer a career-ending injury or get hit by a car before he breaks the record.

FIRST STAR - CHARLIE LINDGREN, G, WASHINGTON CAPITALS

Lindgren led the NHL in both wins (4) and saves (111), going 4-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .949 save percentage to help the Capitals (14-12-4, 32 points) move within one point of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Wade Redden joins legends like Chris Phillips and Chris Neil in the Sens' Ring of Honour.

With so many greats to choose from hard to predict who's next. Clarke MacArthur's star shined so bright but for so little time. I think it would be disrespectful to not honour Marc Methot or Patrick Lalime next.

I gotta say, I no longer get much of any joy in watching hockey fights.

When I was younger, my inner neanderthal fucking loved watching grown men on skates bareknuckle box (of course being oblivious to the long-term health impacts).

Aside from the obvious long-term health implications, the other new development is that basically everyone in the league wears a visor now. So even if you do 'land' punches, most often you're just punching a piece of hard plastic. Idiotic. And it is illegal to remove helmets before fighting and obviously you want them to protect your head.

So what's the damn point anymore? For it to be a 'fun' thing to watch, you need to get rid of visor-punching, imo. But to do that, you have to deliberately risk the health of your players for what is literally an illegal sideshow to the actual game itself.

Moral of the story, time to get rid of fighting. Or, fully embrace our neanderthalic roots and at least make it entertaining again by doing something about visors (which, for the record, is dumb, but I prefer it to the current shit)
