Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Yeah. He holds the hammer though. If he refuses to sign the extension you put in front of him, you have two choices, QO him for 1x10 or don't QO him and he becomes UFA.

Would be a helluva neat trick to fit him into our cap structure at say, the Forsberg deal (8.5) with Willy & Auston due new deals 12 months later. Not impossible...but still.
or, you get him for the run and then trade him in the summer.

Sure, he takes a risk. But he's at 30M in career earnings so far and would be guaranteed 10M next season with his QO if his team exercises the option. 40M career earnings is a decent position to be in if you're going to bet on yourself and not take the 8.5x8 deal you were offered by a team you were traded to and have played a total of like 8 weeks for.

Yeah, the Pacioretty injury doesn't look good at all.

I was kind of shocked that he returned that quickly from his first popped achilles. That's usually a one year injury.

(I'm sure a healthy dose of pharmaceuticals greatly helped in his recovery, but still)

What a collision! I take back what I said about him being glass.

I mean, it's still $10M (less commissions, taxes, etc.) versus $68M guaranteed. Anything can happen.

Definitely on-board with Meier as a deadline addition. That’s the kind of guy I’m comfortable throwing serious assets at—a legit stud top line forward, instead of Shatkins’ing around with guys like Crouse or Bjugstad.

The potential to recoup assets for him in the summer (assuming we can’t re-sign him) is enticing too. If the impossible happens and the Leafs go on a lengthy run he plays well in, that could seriously pump up his value.

Samsonov gets the start tommorrow.

IMO, not the right move.
I may be coming around to your point of view here.

Just alternate, every damn time. Gives the players stability and routine.

But also, play Sammy in Toronto as much as possible, apparently...
