Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

he’s worth that.

Nahhhh..

Not when guys who are better to much better than M Tkachuk, Rantanen signing south of 10 million and similar guys like Fiala, Forsberg, B Tkachuk signing around 8 he isn't.

I mean, if we were making a list of the top 10 wingers in the league, is he on it? Marner, Robertson, M Tkachuk, Connor, Kaprizov, Panarin, Pasta, Kuch, Marchand, Rantanen, Ovy....all significantly better.

He's in a big ass pile with a bunch of other guys. Fiala, Forsberg, Nylander, B Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Buchnevich, Ehlers, Bratt, Stone, Kyrou in the 2nd tier imo. None of those guys are 10 million dollar hockey players. The cap just hasn't gone up enough for the definition of a 10+ million dollar hockey player to have changed that much in the last few years, especially if we're talking about a winger. A winger needs to be a legit perennial 1st team all NHL threat to be worth 10+

but he can sign for less than $10m, no?

Yeah. He holds the hammer though. If he refuses to sign the extension you put in front of him, you have two choices, QO him for 1x10 or don't QO him and he becomes UFA.

Would be a helluva neat trick to fit him into our cap structure at say, the Forsberg deal (8.5) with Willy & Auston due new deals 12 months later. Not impossible...but still.

I'm down. He's a dynamic player.

And he takes a risk too with a 1 year $10M deal - what if he gets injured bad and is never the same? Pretty big gamble which incentivizes reasonableness and going longer term on a smaller hit.

Yeah, the Pacioretty injury doesn't look good at all.

I was kind of shocked that he returned that quickly from his first popped achilles. That's usually a one year injury.

(I'm sure a healthy dose of pharmaceuticals greatly helped in his recovery, but still)
