Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

The bigger concern point for me is that the real players in the industry are walking away from decade's long relationships (Reebok/Adidas had been making official jerseys since 2005) and that Nike wasn't interested in getting involved at all.

Hockey is such small potatoes in the U.S. they are further from the other big sports than ever and MLS is passing them. It feels like whenever Bettman speaks in a U.S city for a press conference all the reporters asking questions are from Canadian cities.
It also feels like Bettman wants the cap to stay low for his money-losing franchises.
The 7 Canadian franchises are making way too much of the revenues for the NHL.

I’ve often wondered if, aside from pride, that’s one of the reasons the Coyotes are allowed to continue to exist. And do increasingly bush-league shit like play in 5000-seat arenas.

Act as an artificial drag on hockey-related revenues, which helps keep the cap ceiling down for the other owners.

Golf kills hockey in the south.

Cheer squad competitions? Big.

Kids baseball and softball. Big.

Not to mention football and basketball and soccer which has blown up in Florida. Lot of kids playing it. Heavy Hispanic influence.

This is what parents here spend their money on. Hockey isn't on their list for the most part.

I'd guess (not a parent) that the cost of your kids playing hockey is significantly more than soccer or other sports. Particularly if one has several kids.

Don't kid yourself about other sports though. Football and Baseball/Softball especially are not cheap endeavors.

Basketball and Soccer, not much expense and courts and fields everywhere.

If I was to guess Im in around 3500 this year for U9. Thats registration, equipment, cash call for the team, hotels , meals etc

Baseball last season cost me 300 for registration and equipment and a few out of pocket expenses for the kids at the year end wrap up

Even in the North East, hockey is fringe. In NYC, the Rangers are the last thing on anyone’s mind. #niche

Travel ball costs way more. Like hockey.

Why are these teams even cancelling these plans?

I assume to keep some heat off a few players. It’s very strange.

Because hockey culture hasn't changed and it's the way of things to protect the abusive assholes at the cost of the victims living in silence.
