Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

So we are down to FLA/PIT fighting for the last wildcard spot in the East (winner faces BOS), and WPG/CGY fighting in the West with NAS making a little push. Divisional races pretty tight in the West - brackets will likely come down to the last 2-3 games of the season.

NSH has a better record than CGY.

NYI may be safe but not quite yet. Buf FLA's skid probably cooked them tbh.

TBL .613
-----------
NYI .572
PIT .554
FLA .540

SEA .603
-----------
WPG .567
NSH .562
CGY .553

Ekholm such a huge add its crazy. Good enough to carry Bouchard on a top pair and let's them slot Nurse on the 2nd pair as a #3 where he fits. And Ceci as a complementary #4 which is hisax usage.

And the return of Kane plus Bjugstad now gives them plenty of depth.

Yeah that was a good signing and truthfully I was a bit surprised Holland was aware enough to snag him. Best deadline pickup for them in ages.

I was at a wedding a few years back and sat at a table with a guy who spent a few years as an ahl plug and his story was basically the same (albeit at the ahl level - he was a 6’5 220 18 year old which helped him be a decent jr player).

first game in the ahl Rocky Thompson lines up and said something like get used to this and drops em. That was it. living life getting punched in the face and throat sucks.

Really is some wild shit when you stop and think about it.

Literal children working as full-time, unpaid labourers for a for-profit business and being forced into regular bare-knuckle boxing matches with each other on a rock-hard surface for the amusement of a paying audience.

And for every one that went on to some degree of the major-league fame and fortune their crusty old coaches used to motivate and wield power over these kids, hundreds more took all that damage and got next to no financial reward out of it.

Future generations will probably look back on us like we look back on the Romans and their gladiatorial combat.

For some guys though that's more than enough. Options zero on the farm or fishing village in fuckitscold Labrador.

Guy I know would get walked to his car by security after the games because opposing parents would follow him out of the arena. These weren't even pro games, we're talking 14-15 years old.

This is exactly what my father used to say about being an enforcer too. He hated it but he was big and it was the 70s. They had future HOFers on his junior roster and he was just supposed to fight anyone who dared touch them. Not a happy existence or memories of playing really.

Since Ekholm trade (15gms)

Ekholm 63.6xgf% --- Bouchard 60.4xgf%
Nurse 51.8xgf% --- Ceci 51.6xgf%
Kulak 53.8xgf% -- Desharnais 53.8 / Broberg 60.1
Ekholm is exactly the defensive stud they needed dropped everyone down a notch
