Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Seems like a much better plan would be use cap space to get good hockey players.

but I guess overpay bad ones is an option.
This FA class is pretty bad, not super keen on giving 5+ years to any of them for where the Hawks are.

Coincidentally i wouldnt want to surrender any actual prospects off the roster for immediate help now for the same reason.

Foligno probably sucks, but it only takes a reasonably decent season for some idiot GM to give up a mid round pick cause grit.

Perry is still good, and will land something decent. If he was on any team other than TBL the past few years he wouldve been moved every year to a TBL type

Hall, is still good, someone absolutely takes him for a decent return at half price

And until they are moved they are all professional sorts that help with Bedard and any other prospect on the roster

Same guy that freaked out over Kampf at 2.4 defending Foligno and Perry at 4. Lol. He really loves his rapists.

Cap Space means the same thing to Toronto as it does Chicago does it?

Youre better than this, but then again, i do love rapists, so have at it. Fucking try harder though

Maaaaaybe Chicago finds a taker for one or both of them at the deadline. Maybe.

But old-ass Nick Foligno or Corey Perry at a $2M cap hit (even after max retention) is certainly not an asset you’re going to get much in return for.

Foligno was effectively a throw in with Hall for 2 kids that they were done with in the system ( right or wrong), and Perry's rights cost a 7th. I think they get decent ROI, and thats on the ice too

Hall is still good enough, Perry will get some contender to buy in, and Foligno is an old shoe that recently stepped in dog shit.

Signing a few vets to one year deals to hit the floor is how you don't end up signing rando shitty vets to multi year deals. Plus, you want a stinky year after you draft a franchise player imo, to get another high end kid. Part of me wishes the Leafs didn't make the playoffs that first year after they got Auston. Woulda been nice to grab a Necas or Suzuki or Norris or Thomas to add to the core. Probably don't sign Marleau either.

The Leafs already had too much good young talent in place before Matthews was even drafted to be able to tank for another season.

To even get Matthews, they had to keep Nylander in the AHL and send Marner back to the OHL when it was pretty clear neither had any business still being in those leagues.

The big missed opportunities to win early were wasting our extra cap space on Marleau, drafting Travis Dermott one pick before Sebastian Aho in 2015 and wasting our 2016 31st overall pick on Korshkov when Debrincat was still on the board.
