If Askarov is all that, why did SKA let him go? They wouldn't with Shesterkin, they won't with Michkov so why?

Haven't spoken to him since his draft year. He talked kinda longingly about playing for a Montreal/Toronto type market. But he was super young then and has a family now so the priorities might be way way different.
