Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

and his willingness to walk away from $4M would tend to confirm that.

Professional athletes walk away from money all of the time, but it's almost never to end up with less guaranteed money. It's considered a collosal fuckup whenever that happens (fumbling the bag). Outside of professional sports there is no parallel industry. An actor can walk away from a bag early in their career, pick up a crippling cocaine addiction for a decade and then headline a major marvel movie franchise and make a hundred million dollars. Athlete's don't have nearly the same wiggle room for free thought. You go from guaranteed bag to guaranteed bag until you're too old to keep up.

I understand all that, I've been around as long as you have. NBA players will decline their options because they KNOW there's another team out there willing to pay more. But Zadina KNOWS there's no NHL team out there willing to pick up his existing contract since everyone passed on waivers, so he WILL get less on his next deal. How much less? I'd imagine a lot because he's done nothing to warrant getting more than a minimum deal than being picked high in the draft, and so he's expecting a team to give him a shot. Whether there will be multiple teams vying for the opportunity such that he can demand more than the minimum, we'll need to wait and see.

Zadina is either heading overseas (now completely free to sign wherever) or will take either a PTO or 1 year deal for the minimum.

No one is going to sign him for more than 1 season or for a 7 figure AAV. He is betting in himself.

He is not the first player to agree to terminate his contract and walk away from the money.

Nothing says we’re in the throes of summer like a 7 page debate about the psychology of filip zadina. Only ME and LoF could pull this off. I’ve read none of it. Never change, fellas.

Caring about a humdrum talent who has done squat since being drafted 5 years ago requires a level of commitment most of us (myself included) cannot muster

I’m thinking Zadina might be LOF’s first hockey client…. more details as they unfold

Hey guys don't let mbow crash your debate party. Keep it going. I was enjoying it. I'm a sucker for repetition.

Shades of the "Muzzin is good" vs "Muzzin is not good" debates that lasted 5000 posts of pure repetition and zero resolution.

ask Count. That was his baby. Site got archived after Brian Burke went after a poster.
