Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

if you have 20 more points in a contract year on a great team vs a non-playoff team, I think you should probably be able to ask for more money, 3 year splits be damned. at least that's what I'd be arguing if I'm the agent vs debrincat.

honestly seems like a fairly easy contract though and the numbers we're hearing from both sides aren't really outrageous - should be able to meet in the middle.
How much more? Debrincat is an outlier, he took a hometown discount deal.

Not really. Just the first year he played on a team with other many offensive options that he had to compete with for opportunity.
The question you need to ask yourself is if he would have produced similarly to Nylander given identical usage and line mates, I think he would honestly.

that's the exact question i did ask myself.

and this year is the first year he was given similar usage to Willy.

So who won the argument? I can't say I read much of it.

LOF takes the W here. Although we'll see how both sides spin this.

Ehhh...that's not the minimum.

But it's also 1 yr, I figured he would want to come close to the bag he dropped.

I'm going to suggest that he either ignored his agent or should fire him though. Signed a backloaded deal and then didn't stick around for the backload. If he has a shit year, he's off to Europe.

it is much closer to the minimum than recouping the guaranteed money he foregoes by terminating his previous deal. and it's only 1 year.

never underestimate hubris I guess

This is the same kid who publicly trash-talked the Habs and Sens right after they passed on him in the draft.

So he definitely isn’t lacking in self-confidence, which is in part why I believed the “he’s betting on himself” interpretation of his contract termination.

I don't understand his reason for forfeiting the 4.65M...simple (yet ultra expensive) change of scenery?

And if he didn't forfeit, would he be playing with Detroit's AHL team, taking up valuable Red Wing cap space?

He's a nothing AHLer who will be 24. His draft slot is the only reason it wasn't the min. I think lowly of a lot of GMs but I couldn't imagine he'd ever get more than this.

So yeah he's definitely insane.
