Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Drouin is still a sublime passer. Threads the pass smartly. I think he'll do ok there. He needed out of the spotlight and for under 900k? That's a lot of talent for that price.

Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see how he does there. Seems like his time in Montreal was the perfect storm of pressure for a guy who was particularly ill-equipped to handle it.

Young, hometown Francophone player expected to be a star, immediately handed a big contract, traded for a young stud defenseman who almost immediately blossomed into a top pair guy.

Now he’s anonymous in an American city and on a cheap-O contract with zero pressure.

It's good for him to have some anti-leafs articles in his back pocket tho.
It's not gonna look good when he comes back in September saying that the Leafs have improved. Easy fodder for the anti Leafs brigade to reference this article.

I figure they got Drou to reunite with Nate.

I doubt it works but i'm sure they'll try it. And maybe it does work ok given how good Nate and Rants are.
I think Drouin is going to have a good year back with his buddy Nate and out of the Canadian media spotlight.

Drouin pulled an Agassi and admitted he hated playing hockey.....maybe his love gets re-kindled but I think it's a coin flip at best

still had a nice assist rate 5 on 5 last year....but he rarely shot the puck, and his SH% was sub 3.0 so that should triple

Eh he's screwed on the season preview either way. I'm guessing the Leafs come out #1 or #2 behind carolina.

substance use issues vs. mental health issues?

…also, as far as we’re aware, Drouin doesn’t hate black people, doesn’t have connections to the Russian mob and has no interest in the vivisection & murder of women & children.

Some definite points in his favour vs Gally.

Maybe.

Galy getting the 2nd line chance with us was a 15gl/40pt type at Even Strength alone. I don't know that Drouin could do any better.

Galy also has better career stats iirc.

I'm gonna pull a LOF here, but I got watch Drouin play a lot in junior, and the guy certainly had all the physical tools to succeed. so I think it will all depend on what's going on in his head.

and I do think getting out of Montreal will be really good for his head. but we'll see, he could be done.

Junior was a decade ago.

Since then he's played 485gms at a 10gl/31pt EV pace (with very cushy usage), with another 3gl/16pt PP pace on top of that (while getting plenty of PP time).
