Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

That guy is a fucking weirdo

He had the entire hockey world snowed over into believing that he was some master leader of men for well over a decade. Basically hockey's Phil Jackson. The real Babcock appears to be a small minded twat more interested in knowing that his people live "the right way" according to traditional western canadian morals.

creepy western canadian morals... which I realize while typing, seems to be an oxymoron.

I don’t even think that’s it. I don’t think he genuinely gives a fuck about any of that, as much as he likes to pontificate about it in front of an audience.

I think it’s all just Babcock loving to use his position of power over people to play petty power games, fuck with them and make them feel small.

I’m also eagerly looking forward to seeing who this year’s version of Mike Commodore/Frankie Corrado/Josh Leivo/Justin Holl will be.

Because I guarantee there’s going to be one guy in Columbus who’ll be on the roster all year but will be a healthy scratch 95% of the time and put in a position to fail whenever they are dressed.

Just another standard part of Babcock’s sociopathic power games.

Provorov will be one the whipping boys on the team but doubt he gets benched.

There's a few options there. Laine is an obvious option. Boqvist is a small talented Euro RHD who probably doesn't know where to stand and that blueline has 3 RHD who know where to stand, 2 of whom are shitty plugs (Gudbranson & Peeke). Bemstrom is another to keep an eye on. A guy who should probably be ridden like a rented mule in a top 6 role but Babcock is 100% going to want to play the Sean Kuraly's, Eric Robinson's and Liam Foudy's of the world ahead of him. Not sure how Babcock is going to take to Johnny Hockey either tbh.

Poor guy just probably wanted to see if he had already made a list of the hardest working teammates ranked in order in his phone, in an effort to avoid asking him to make one. The man is clearly reformed, but now the media will assassinate him anyway. Sad day for hockey.

None of those guys will probably have a good time under Cock, but I’m not sure any of them will qualify to be Babcock’s official whipping boy.

He sort of has a particular type—youngish player with some AHL time under their belt that’s just on the cusp of becoming a full-time NHL player. That way he has the maximum level of power over them as possible, and he can do as much damage to their careers as possible by making them go a year or two with almost no game-play.

Mike Commodore seems like an exception to that rule in that he was a vet in Detroit, but he was originally a Babcock whipping boy at the beginning of his career in Anaheim, and ‘ole Babs couldn’t resist the opportunity to fuck a former whipping boy at the tail end of his career too.

52 point pace for a 21 yr old in 18mpg playing with no one (Brady led the team in scoring that year, Connor Brown was 2nd ffs) is pretty, pretty good.

Likewise, Stutzle's 58 points as a 20 yr old without a whole lot of offensive talent around him was pretty, pretty good and both are now looking like bargain contracts and smart risks.

Ottawa was smart to pay them, and unless Zegras is asking for something insane, Anaheim should also just pay him.
Ottawa played it right , lock up their entire core with cost certainty and for their entire prime years

Which one? The 8.3 million dollar deal for the 90 point centre, the 8.2 million dollar deal for the best powerforward in the world, or the 7.9 million for the 35 goal scorer (in 66 games)?

There's better examples than the set of Ottawa deals. Suzuki, Caufield, Svechnikov, Ryan Johanesen, Keller....all got paid before putting up exciting numbers for their age.
His brother is numero uno
