Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I’m honestly laughing at the mental image of a boss inviting their employee over to their house for lunch, strong-arming them into handing over their phone, spending several very awkward minutes just flipping through their private photos while the employee sweats and twiddles their thumbs, then handing the phone back and telling them to get the fuck out without any lunch being served.

Just cartoonish levels of shit-baggery. If you saw it on The Office or something, you’d think it was totally unrealistic.

and for years this guy was the consensus 'best coach in hockey'. as much as I love the sport, it is truly fucked up.
 
I don't love hockey culture but as many in the game have said, Babcock's antics are beyond typical hockey culture where coaches often cross a line all in the name of doing what they think will help their team win. This Babcock thing downright sociopathic and has nothing to do with the game itself. He's a sick demented human being.

that's BS. he was allowed to thrive because of hockey culture and the OBC we're always winging about.

the warning signs of his sociopathy, as you refer to it, were always there. but everyone looked away cause, 'winning' 'grit' 'toughness' etc. him flourishing is a product of the sick and perverted OBC culture that has permeated hockey for decades.

again, a bunch of folks in fucking management were apparently unphased by the dude they hired requiring his subordinates to share the content of their personal devices with him. only in fucking hockey (or maybe the NFL?) is this kinda shit okay.

Yeah agree to disagree on this one. Lots of trash human beings out there as coaches but I wouldn't lump them into the same level of garbage as Babcock. This is the same guy who called franzen in his room weekly to call him a fat pig and told him to quit. These aren't normal human behaviors for a hockey coach and I say that as someone who has been abused by one. Plenty of shit people in hockey, yes, but Babcock is in the upper range of garbage.

But yeah people like shanny and jarmo should have known better both for sticking with him for too long and hiring him in the first place.

That’s not what I’m saying though. Fine, Babs is worse than average/normal for the OBC. Doesn’t change my point that he’s lasted as long as he has cause the OBC let him (and let’s be real, he’s a card carrying member). And these fucks have for years (and continue to) allow this shit to fly as part of hockey culture.

Hockey always wants desperately to read too much into nothing that has to do with success, The man had success with great talent. That's why he won what he did. These nutty antics had nothing to do with it.
 
That's pretty much what I said the other day when Marleau said it was fine. Marleau has pics of 4 sons on his phone I am sure and is almost 40 when Babs is doing this. A person in their early 20's? Do not go through their phone or ask for pictures. Your career could be over if he judges you on those pictures.

Also how many guys may have pictures of wives/GFs/BFs etc. Where it is an invasion of privacy of not just the player but others around them.
