It's kind of funny how much crap Phil has gotten in his career. He clearly loves the game and he has the ironman record while being mocked about being out of shape more than anyone.Makes sense, with the Phil-whisperer Rick Tocchet working as Vancouver’s head coach.
You have to hand it to Phil—he really must love the game. Three Cups, oodles of money and he already has the all-time ironman record. No other real reason for him to keep playing on cheap contracts, except for genuinely enjoying it.

I HATED what happened to him at the All-Star game as well(Picked last). He handled it so well. That was such ridiculous bullshit. He also got all that underserved shit for the unprotected picks Burke traded for him and what they turned into. Not his fault at all, but he still had to listen to the “Thank you Kessel” chants.
On the upside for Phil, in the latter half of his career, the mockery mostly faded away and he became appreciated by most hockey fans. Even sort of turned into a folk hero of sorts.
Part of that was him playing a huge role in two Cup wins for the Pens (and I still think he should have won the Conn Smythe in their first of two Cups). And of course another part of that is that he was no longer a Toronto Maple Leaf.

None of those perky gym injuries to worry about
go look up Gary Roberts comments about Kessel. looks can sometimes be deceiving.
He says he's looking elite.
Oh, and his obligatory, "he's only 19!"
Insert applicable number with respect to any Hab he's hyping up.
The claim of Slaf having 30 points in his last 30 games was particularly amusing, since he has 27 points in 53 games this year.
Today's Frenemisms (direct from the man himself):
1. Suzuki is Bergeron 2.0. Puts up points, scores goals, great on faceoffs, will be up for the Selke, durable, and a pro.
2. Caufield is a goal scoring machine and he has been at every level.
3. Slaf is outpacing hughes at 19. He has 30 points in his last 30 games. 6-4, 230 and has improved month over month since he came into the league.
4. Guhle a beast aleady at 22. 5. STruble proving to be a beast in his rookie year. 6. Jackeye the toughest guy in the league. Just ask Reeves. 6. Dach is only 22, 6-4 has only improved over the past 2 seasons. He'll be back and solid again next year. 7. Hutson has outscored anyone in college hockey ever including fox and Makar. Not saying he'll be better but he's on a pretty fucking good trajectory. Then you have guys like 8. newhook, Beck and Roy who will be very good bottom 6 pieces. Mailleux has 30 points in last 30 games. 9. Reinbacher will be a 1 or 2 on the right side for 12 years. We will have a ton of cap space, 23 picks in the next two years inclsuing 4 firsts and 11 in the top 3 rounds. the best goalie in college hockey who Whiteny called the next Hasek. Already a great goalie in Montembault. More trade bait in Allen, Savard, Harris, Baron, Pearson.
