Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Seems the way this usually plays out is that Dundon will keep on lowballing the hell out of Brind’Amour behind the scenes until the “Dundon is a cheapskate” stories reach critical mass.

Then he’ll cave and pay Brind’Amour, while angrily denying that he ever lowballed him in the first place and sniping at the people claiming he’s cheap in a “thou dost protest too much” kind of way.

On a related note, I've been wondering about this too...

With Stamkos going UFA, and TB looking to be on the downswing, would he want to actually come home this time on some shorter Marleau-esque deal?
No.

My brother who lives in Toronto works with one of Stamkos' aunts and he spoke with her about this very issue only a couple of weeks ago. She told him straight up that Stammer LOVES Tampa. The city, the organization, the fans, all of it. His family loves it there too. So no, he doesn't need to "come home" because he already is home. And the only discount he's going to take, if he takes one at all, is to stay right where he is.

Brind'Amour has stated numerous times that he has little interest in being an NHL coach anywhere else. He has lived in Raleigh for over 20 years. His mother in law is an NC State alum.

Sorry, but he isn't going to chase a bag to become some other team's head coach now. Raleigh is his home and has been for almost 25 years.

The only thing the Leafs might shake loose from the Canes in the offseason are UFAs Brett Pesce or Brady Skjei (or both?) Their top priority should be improving their D. Skjei will be looking for north of $7 million with Pesce $5.5-6.5 million. Canes cannot sign both.
Any coach taking on the job in Toronto is basically volunteering to be run out of town within 2 years. It's aggravation that an established coach in a good situation like Brind'Amour does not want nor need. Anyone with 2 eyes and an asshole knows that the Leafs are about to hit the skids as their window slams shut. They have to bust up the core, they have next to nobody on the farm who is NHL ready and they've mortgaged all their high picks in win-now moves that produced no actual winning.

The Canes have a very good shot at making the finals this season. Why would Brind'Amour want to leave?

Lets not kid ourselves, they are both coming

They will sign Keefe to an offer sheet as retaliation.

Vegas is in a bit tough next year. They're going to be hardpressed capwise to even re-sign one of Marchessault, Stephenson, Mantha, or Martinez, let alone 2 of them, and no chance at all of them. They'll have maybe $5m left to try and re-sign one of those guys, and even that will need them to run a pretty barebones roster. And there's not a lot of fat to trim contract wise, either.

I know. They didn't even really optimize the Hanifin extension. An aav that low isn't very appealing on the ltir for deadline adds.
