Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

And 1.9 ppg for kucherov in the Q

Yeah, I know

Again though, I don't think comparing a 2nd rounder who disappointed in D+1 and didn't really show signs of being an impact prospect until he was 20 in the AHL, to a top 5 pick is a particularly valuable comparison. Yes, Demidov is ahead of where Kucherov's development was at 18...so were a lot of prospects that Kucherov blew past 2-3 years later. Outliers are a thing. Top 10 picks are usually much, much more predictable.

....That's not a bunch though. That's a couple of outliers over a few decades worth of sample.

Fwiw, I've never seen a reason to not treat KHL stats and performance different than Liiga or SHL. They're all similar quality leagues overall, with pretty similar approaches to developing young players....in that they don't give a fuck about developing young players. You're either good enough to play for them today to help them win, or you're not. They're professional leagues, not dev leagues.
It is the top 3 scorers last year (that played in the KHL). None of them had great D1 seasons in the KHL.

Obviously I've been following michkov. The point there was that his coach did not want to play him so they loaned him elsewhere. Demidov doesn't have the loan opportunity (it isn't allowed in last year of contact).

So if michkov was the 13th forward all year on st Petersburg I also would not take the numbers at face value.

As for other euro leagues I do think it is different.
The top 3 euro scorers
Pasta (AHL)
Rantenin (AHL)
Nylander (ppg in SwedishHL)

Then to have 3 that stayed Europe
Forsberg (under a ppg in Sweden 1)
Aho (ppg in sm liiga)

Eh, Kaprizov was half a year younger in his D+1 (which is why quant and some other stats sites consider his D+1 yr to be his 18 yr old season, and Demidov his 19 yr old season). The counter would be in that analysis, Demidov would be a half year younger (though Michkov wouldn't, his birthday and Demidovs are only a few days separated)

Did it as a D-1 as well though, where he put up .74ppg in the KHL. I mean, at some point we just have to recognize that St Pete's handled him poorly for whatever reason. The kid clearly could have played for them, and probably been an impact player for them. Coaches do dumb shit with their rosters all the time.

Nah, age relative performance is pretty similar across the 3 leagues. The numbers shift a bit between the leagues (KHL a bit of a lower scoring league) but when you look at the D & D+1 numbers of the top guys, Russia isn't some sort of an outlier generator.

Demidovs start has to be super disappointing. He is being way out played by Artamonov.

His production is more in the Tarasenko, Buchnevich, Chicakov range than the kaprizoc, Michkov range.

Long season though. Only 15 games.
His usage is stupid. Lol at the toi. Rote berg is getting ripped for it. Look beneath the numbers.
