Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

There's probably a relationship to the type of media coverage they get yeah. Very angsty and win now type coverage. It shouldn't surprise anyone that our best organizational moves came during a period where we threw up middles fingers to the media and told the fanbase to expect pain. They needed to hold on for 2-3 more years of that approach though and just played kids. No Marleau's, Thornton's, Simmond's, etc. We should have been trading the JVR's, Bozak's, Gardiner's, etc that we weren't intending to keep long term instead of focusing on being a good but not elite team so quickly.
The Leafs need to.do what the Habs did: hire a front office that doesn't care what the media thinks and takes a "fuck the fans" attitude. Because really, where are the fans going to go? Are they going to stop watching all the games? No. Are they going to stop buying tickets? No. Merch? No. The fans are brainless slaves who don't know what else to do. They aren't going anywhere so no matter how much they bitch and moan, they'll never stop handing over their money. So fuck them and do the heavy lifting required to build a winner.

Are the Habs good? No. Are they going to be good? No. Is management going to be thrown out for missing the playoffs for another several years? Yes. Not the model I want to emulate.

Agreed

Disagree. Fowler is a top notch goalie prospect. We also have a few young guys that will make the team better. Adding another top prospect this year will only help more.

I will be patient, we just got done saying that Canadian teams are impatient with their youth. Look at Lingren in Washington, we cut him loose.

I give them two more. Playoffs in 26-27.
Not the model I want to emulate.
Keep the one you have then, nobody asked you to like or emulate it.

You thought Askarov was elite. Everyone loved Primeau at one time. I wouldn’t bank on any goalie prospect.

Hutson is great. Demidov might be, need to wait and see. Guhle is ok, not amazing. And Suzuki and Caufield are second tier. I’m not sure how that becomes a winning core.

Because you have limited vision and a shit ton of bias. You don't need a core, Leafs proved that in spades, you need depth and lots of it. Cups are won by your bottom six out scoring theirs, look it up.

Nah, sorry. You need elite players. Depth is necessary too, but you can't hope to win much without some top tier players.

You can make playoffs without elite players but Habs are ok because Demidov and Hutson will be elite. Plus we’ll find another one somewhere

You're funny. So why haven't the Leafs won crap again?

Your thinking is archaic. Furthermore you said they wouldn't make the playoffs, now it seems you're thinking winning a cup.

You're the photo negative of WeHave.

I've read 20 years of this crap from these folks. There's no silver bullet plan because luck plays a huge part in winning a cup.

I sort of like your posts, Preston. I hope you come by more often

Also, is anyone getting a COVID booster this fall? Seems like the virus has fallen off...

Hasn't evolved nearly enough in quite awhile to spread much. The virus does have more tricks up its sleeve but there hasn't been significant evolution in about a year so population immunity is still strong. Plus summer had a higher infection rate than usual so lots of fresh immunity.

Might as well get the booster with the flu shot if you haven't been infected in at least a year imo. It's a pretty good match.

If you want to take a lesson from the Leafs, it's that you can't win with only elite player and no proper depth.

The lesson shouldn't be that you can win without elite players as long as you have solid depth.

Dear Mr..Dipshit:

It has come to our attention that you fail to realize all teams that make the cup finals have some form of elite players. As these players generally cancel each other out in production it then falls to depth players. History has shown that cup winners have had above average production from their bottom six forwards. This depth is where the edge is typically found. Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely,

The Management
