Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Hey moron

They've found numerous skeletons and fossils of them in Utah.
Yes, and as I said, I have no issue with the name Mammoths with an s. It's Mammoth without one that bugs me. Just put an "s" on the end to pluralize it.

"On Saturday night, we're playing the Mammoths in Salt Lake City." Great. But why do they want to name their team after just one mammoth? Isn't a team of mammoths scarier?

Shit, MLS has a handful of them. LA Galaxy, Philly Union, New England Revolution, Columbus Crew.

Singular names go pretty hard tbh.

Seattle Kraken...Minnesota Wild...Orlando Magic...Utah Jazz

Mammoth, in this context could refer to one singular Mammoth, or the adjective mammoth. Seattle Kraken goes pretty hard as a name, I don't see why Utah Mammoth would be dissimilar.
All the examples you mentioned are garbage, although Kraken I'm meh about.

The Minnesota Wild. Wild what? Wild flowers? Wild rice? If they had called them the Wildcats that would have beem okay.

Orlando Magic. Magic wand? Magic eraser?

And there is nothing jazzy about Utah. They were just too lazy to change the name when the franchise moved from New Orleans.

Collective nouns are bush league. It's what arena league football, soccer, or lacrosse teams do. NHL teams shouldn't.
