Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

The overrating of Price is amazing by Habsy. He's.not.good.anymore. No one is swallowing that deal without a major sweetener. Completely off the reservation with your assessment of the situation.

There have been said of many “untradeable” players that got traded.

I agree with Habsy. I think Price has similar value to Seattle that Fleury did to Vegas. The contract is absolute shit but it might be edible to them in hitting the cap floor and marketing the “best goalie in the universe ever forever” playing for the new team.

I just don’t think either Price or Bergy allow it to happen. But if Bergy finally gets the firing he’s been busting his ass for years to earn, and a full sell-off of Habs begins, then maybe Price prefers playing for the expansion team close to home rather than the expansion team in Montreal which will still come with unrelenting media pressure and nonstop complaining about his contract.

Seems to me like Fleury has a little more in common with Holtby/Quick.

There were 2 years left on Fleury's deal when he agreed to move to LV. There will be 5 years on Price's deal when he's available to go to Seattle and older than Fleury was. Like in what universe does this make sense?

don't trade anyone.

fire Bergevin, and have the balls to hire someone who you give full control to.

I acknowledge the differences, but the similarity is getting a big name goalie, one who could potentially make the team relatively competitive, or at least not atrocious, right out of the gate. I don’t think they’ll sweat the money so much because they likely won’t be icing an expensive team or spending to the cap. So the contract isn’t such a deterrent to a team like that, whereas it’s unfathomable to almost every other team. Not saying it’s a slam dunk, but definitely foresee interest on their part to take him.

Whoever that is would need to start his tenure by immediately trading everyone, or else you just get Bergy Redux. But definitely it should be someone other than Bergy overseeing the sell off.

Price, on that contract and with how he's played the past few years should be untradeable.

That said, he also shouldn't be voted by the players as the best goalie in the world last year. 29.9% of players polled picked Price. Seriously... it makes zero sense, but somehow he still has that aura.

Like I said, he shouldn't be tradeable... but you never know. These hockey people seem to live in the past. Unfortunately Bergevin is one of them old school guys, so he probably thinks Price is untouchable.

This is madness

Yeah, I don't know how anyone really feels like Price would be movable with his contract. The deal was bad when he signed it, then he went and had a horrible year before it even kicked in. Last year he was good, and if he can get back to the same this year, some teams might at least start to consider it, although obviously not at full price.

Of course, as has been said, in many ways it doesn't really matter what his contract is like, because for some reason we're not even spending to the cap right now. I mean, holy mother, the Habs have a lower cap hit on the roster right now than Ottawa. Management of the team is just a joke on so many levels.

I'm sure he could sell a lot of toilet bowl cleaner.

I think you guys are over estimating the willingness of a brand new franchise to hitch it's cart to his recent performance and contract. With teams only able to protect 1 goalie, there's going to be a pile of solid goalies available to them.

Like do they have Carey Price day in Seattle or something? How is he a bigger PR get ( which is a premise i disagree with) than a cup winning American in Quick they can get in the expansion draft? Or cup winning Holtby, or sign a cup winning Crawford? If PR and flash is really what they want im sure NJD leaves Subban unprotected. Price makes no sense

Holtby is a free agent. He’s got no reason to sign there unless he comes up empty almost everywhere else. Quick has been unplayable the last two years. Neither have the bullshit overhyped name of Price either. Who are all the other potential options?

A Seattle hooker in pads not making 10.5 for 5 years in her late 30's

Teams can only protect 1 goalie...it's how Vegas landed Fleury in the first place, Pittsburgh was going to lose him regardless. Who are these other options? Their pick of half the goalies in the league, on top of their pick from a crowded veteran free agent class. Rinne, Rask, Andersen, Binnington, Dubnyk, Raanta, Grubauer

Why handcuff themselves with an albatross, when it might be the easiest position for them to fill that off season? Snag a good 1B in the expansion draft (hard to tell who is going to be available 18 months out, but at least a handful of decent 1B/Backups will be available) and then sign one.
