Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

sure we need another winger. this team has no real goalscoring threats past Matthews and Tavares.

we just don't need it more than defencemen or goaltending.

Carey is a 10M league avg goalie for the forseeable future

He went through this spell last year too, he usually turns it around the second half. Yes I agree you shouldn't have to wait for a $10.5M goalie to turn it around yearly but the worst contract in the league? Naw.

Just for sheer length and money it really is. Dude at best is a fringe top 10 goalie, right now. That aint aging well. At least Subban is done soon enough, At least Seabrook is only 6.8

I assume part of the reason you guys dont realize how brutal it is is because somehow it has yet to effect a cap decision with the Habs. Which says a lot about your GM

It says a lot about ownership. I have zero doubt Bergevin has been ordered to keep the cap way low. What are the Habs now? Second to lowest cap hit? It's criminal. Molson only cares about selling beer and selling real estate, winning a cup is tertiary at best.

Ok I just looked and there are 7 teams with more cap space but still, having $7M sitting there is stupid when you apparently are trying to make the playoffs. If they were rebuilding I would be far more understanding, they are not.

I think there could be no cap pace if he a able to get UFAs to agree to play there. He had a pretty big offerhseet deal for Aho.

I’d be shocked if Dubas used Sandin or Liljegren as trade-bait for anybody. We need good, cheap D going forward and can’t afford to lose those guys.

But maybe you could build a package around Johnsson or Kapanen. But why would you want to? Hall would be a pure rental. We can’t afford another $10M+ forward.

Hall Matthews Willy gives me perma wood

I know it makes zero sense but that is one lethal line

This cap chat is way overblown . We don’t have enough elite talent sign .

Let’s get Lucic to waste our cap or maybe trade for Hall and give him 10 mil to watch him rot in 3 years

Habs aren’t cheap, and we haven’t dumped our cap on too many bad mistakes like other teams

After next year we could easily be dumb and over pay Petry , Dano , Tatar , or give Domi 7 mil this summer

Then we could enjoy our chats about how a middle of the pack team is in cap hell

going an entire season with a bunch of unused cap space, when you're one of the wealthier teams in the league, is just wasting a valuable asset.

I think blowing $ on overpriced UFAs is dumb. The only reason they have that cap space is UFAs refuse to sign there. Don't spend $ for the sake of it unless it makes sense.

Horse hockey.

Cap space in an asset. If they don't want to sign a player because there isn't one available they can pick up assets for taking on a bad expiring contract with the space. There is zero excuse for a team that is consistently top 3 in revenue to be way under the cap 2 years in a row.

Problem is, can’t pay an elite UFA to come. So everything depends on trades and drafting, and neither have been very good.

Now you’ve got all these middle of the road players going UFA within the next two years, and they’ll all be looking for raises and fluffed up ufa contracts. If you don’t give it to them, how do you ice an nhl caliber team?
