Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

It's super rare for a Canadian hockey player to be buried like Hall has been by people. It's as if he hasn't been on only dumpster fires in his career. Shit, he won a Hart one of those places.

That was a great segment by MJ -- but he unfortunately ended it by giving praise to Connor McKinnon.

IMO, MJ is better than Ferraro. Ferraro has the advantage of that perfect deep broadcast voice but he doesn't get nearly as tactical.

TSN keeps Mike Johsnon trapped in his box. On deadline day he was asked to join Carlo Colaiacovo to do a what if hockey was soccer session, and stand by as co-host of here's 30 names we cobbled together, what can David Kampf do for a team?

Where as Craigory Button is legit allowed to scream at me about prospects.

I do wonder if Johnson being litterally the only one not spewing the same tired cliches and challenging people's opinions as he's done on Leafs Lunch, hurts him.
A guy like Anthony Stewart is all about the media cliches.

I only listened to Stewart like 4 times and that was enough for me.

The first time was when he credited Simmonds for waking up the Leafs when he fought Chiarot -- called it the turning point in the game.

Then, an intermission later, seemingly already out of cliches, he doubled down on Simmonds being one of the key players in the game.

Dirk Hayhurst admitted he was fired for being critical of Jays players during his tenure and that Rogers wants to keep their analysis as simple as possible. I have no doubt TSN feels the same way regarding Canadian teams, you rarely see any criticism even when warranted.

Chris Collingsworth referred to it as "don't lose Grandma' -- that's what execs told him. ie...don't go to inside

Then Romo came along and was so green/enthusiastic that he forgot about Grandma....and spoke as if he was at a bar with good friends. Now, he landed a huge contract and other NFL broadcasters are starting to copy him.

Both TSN and Sportsnet seem to have their set narratives and storylines that they want to push for the Leafs in any given year.

I’m sure their executives figure out what’s going to generate the most talk, attention and clicks from the fanbase. And if they don’t go so far as to give their on-air guys those talking points, at the very least they hire or promote guys who they think will push the narratives they want pushed.

Johnson usually seems to have very little time of day for those lazy narratives, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a large part of the reason why he didn’t stick on HNIC, and why TSN doesn’t give him a ton of exposure.

and they make adjustments throughout the year...or they should be in theory

They are both great but Ray`s chats go beyond hockey strategy . He often criticizes teams like the Nucks for spending like fools or has solid points about team building and roster construction .
