So it should have been a 2 minute minor. Lots of things get missed tho. If that's a suspension then think of all the slashes that actually connect. There wouldn't be more than 5 teams in the league that could fill their roster after the suspensions that are handed out.

I agree, NHL refs allow a ton of slashing to go unchecked. and people like Mack can take baseball swings knowing they will not be punished unless they take out a guy's eye thanks to the poor precedent they have set.

personally, I would like there to be more of a deterrent against this kind of stick work, i.e. suspensions for reckless/intentional plays with your stick that are obviously dangerous.

it's like the lesson you are taught as a kid about always being responsible for your stick no longer applies when you reach the pros...

This play is the only time I remember a player getting a slashing penalty without making any contact:
