Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Hey, Montreal’s a big hockey market too. Why not have a second team in Montreal?

They’ve got a history of having multiple teams too. One of my grandmothers was a Montreal Maroons fan back in the day. Bring back the Maroons and give the Anglos their own team again!!
montreal is more of a canadiens market than a hockey market

but quebec city for sure

There has to be a hit movie they can name the team after

Avengers? Avatars? Jurassic Park is popular again - maybe the Dinos

if Bill 101 never went thru....yeah, Montreal would still be the biggest city in the country and a 2nd team would be in the offing.

For now, the return of Nordiques is the best the province can do.

Man I remember Montreal in the 70s. The language stuff and Levesque.

Then they change Dorchester St (he was instrumental in lobbying England to allow the French to maintain language after they took Quebec) to Levesque Blvd. That told my what I needed to know. History means nothing and will be rewritten many, many times.

Growing up in that era with that strife was the reason many people left. It took me until mid 80s but yeah, after experiencing life without the utter bullshit of communication medium arguments I said wow. I'm out.

urban planners in the 60s predicted a population of over 10M for MTL by 2020

then culture/language issues took over

They were smoking crack. The Auto Pact (1965) was in place and immigration was already shifting to Toronto before the 70s. The shift happened before 101 (which, it must be said, obviously exacerbated matters.)

never should have expanded the St Lawrence Seaway

anyway, the crack smoking led to a great subway system.....but on the negative side, it led to Mirabel Airport

Well, as a truck driver who goes to Montréal often, thank god there isn't 10 millions people on that island.
Yup. Natural selection.

People forget its a darn island. I used to tell tourists " you remember those bridges you crossed "?

If I had the cash I'd do it and hire zeke and MindzEye... also buy a popcorn company to watch the different philosophies.

I guarantee you that if Leaf ownership faced real competition for their dollar disgraceful displays like yesterday's do not happen. Because in a competitive situation they can't happen.
