Is this true that he “kicked his skate into the air”?

What were the circumstances surrounding how it went down?

there was incidental contact between Petgrave and a third player right before the contact with Johnson.

to my eye, it looks like the contact knocks Petgrave off balance and he kicks his leg out in response and to stabilize himself.

but yeah, you should watch the video. after seeing the slo-mo, I was less convinced that it was intentional.

Every once and a while, you have to stop and marvel at the fact that Colin Campbell is still gainfully employed at the NHL’s head office.

There are few better examples of what a bush-league operation the NHL is than that.

not a concern, but it is annoying. feels like a soccer team attacking in the offensive end deciding to kick the ball all the way back to the keeper and starting over. kind of dumb (IMO) when you only have 5 minutes. not sure they need a "rule" for it though.

It is for me, ruins the enjoyment 3v3 brings when you only have 5 mins of it, and teams play keep away for fear of giving it up to the more skilled other team.

I’d love to see these suggested rules enforced so we get more of the entertainment 3v3 brings & more conclusively decided games pre-shootout.

Meh. Maybe, but nah. The idea of creating a whole different type of possession change bugs me on a fundamental level. Unless the idea is to stop play and have a faceoff for a shot clock violation, which will slow things down and 50% of the time not change possession.

I’ve laid out this exact idea to friends for 2 years now, so that’s my main motivation behind supporting it….patting myself on the back.

Yeah, this is my preference as well. 10min 3v3 with a tie at the end.

Ties are bullshit. Keep the shootout but absolutely increase the OT to 10 minutes to reduce the frequency. And if I had my way, that 10-minute OT would be 4-on-4.

Or 5 min 4-on-4, then 5 min 3-on-3 and everybody's happy.

The thing I think 10 minutes will change is usage. You won't be able to just spam your top 4 forwards out there for 90% of it. Depth of talent and team speed will actually mean something in OT.
