How often do players take less than they should have?

There are guys on bargain deals like Pastrnak and MacKinnon, but only because they broke out huge after signing for what they should have.

Tampa guys are the only one that I can think of and that is only because they aren't actually taking less cash than they would get elsewhere due to taxes.

Generally players hold out for what they deserve to get, and how can you criticize anyone for that?

Even the Chicago guys who have always been held up as the example of this phenomena got 11.09% of cap each on their 1st real deals. Keith took less I guess (9.75%) for a Norris trophy contender is great, but they gave him 13 years. He's making 5.5 million as a 37 yr old this year and for 2 more after this.
 
For all the talk about the Leafs cap situation, they were able to sign the 5th highest paid UFA by cap hit. Only Pietro, Hall, Krug and Markstrom are being paid more than Brodie.

Its amazing how under the radar that signing has gone. He'll be one of the biggest offseason additions any team made this offseason, and everyone is still talking about Thornton and Simmonds.

The Leafs cap situation is one of the best in the league. Its not a problem to pay players what they are worth. As we saw with Kappy/Johnsson, you can always trade player for valuable returns when they are paid what they are worth.
 
Having Brodie along with getting better depth was massive for this team. Marincin should not get a sniff this year
 
I just read that if the Leafs do not win the cup this season they will own the longest cup drought in history passing the Rangers.
 
Impressive however its tough to put much stock into those when they have 2 games where they out scored their opponents 25-2

seems like ghoulie hasnt been as bad as....habsy....thought
