Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

There may be a bit of a return to the old days of guys wanting to end their careers here. This is how we got a lot of guys in the past. Maybe some guys think they could be the ones who become heroes
 
I doubt very much that Florida will get played by Darren Ferris like Dubas did.

Imagine if they’d called his bluff on the offer sheets when Marner was RFA. Either they save millions or they get 4 first round picks, plus Seth Jarvis.

If Florida is willing to give him 7-8 years at a market AAV, he won't. But I've been assured that they're smart and will just look for the next Bennett instead of paying this one.

They probably find the next Bennett from some idiot team selling low on a guy because they need a culture change.

The organization has operated almost exactly how I didn't want it to for those 5 years, so I'm at a place now where if we're going to be gritty, grindy gud pros and that's just this stupid, stupid fucking organization....then be gritty grindy gud pros, but be good ones at it pls. Stop giving me bottom of the lineup junk and pretending that's our identity.

I admit that I've given up expecting this organization to be what I wanted it to be.

We're not outsmarting anyone, or even trying to. But with the cap going into nosebleed territory for a lot of teams in the league, just fucking spend. Spend on guys who can be part of a winner.

That's what I'm saying. If we're going to do this dogshit, at least get the players who are the best at it. Stop spending 1sts on Scott fucking Laughton only to find out a week later he can't play centre, and just go get the best version of whatever you wanted Scott fucking Laughton to be.

My scorching hot take is that they'd be in the finals if Matthews was healthy this year. He was still elite but took a steep, unfathomable step down offensively this year. And as things got tighter in the playoffs, any significant physical ailment is gonna make it real hard to elevate. Tough to win a cup when your 70 goal scorer that you rely upon so heavily suddenly becomes a 40 goal scorer.

They're not far away and yeah maybe it's worth overpaying for some mediocre talent to take that next step. That, plus Matthews getting healthy. That's bigger than any signing they could possibly make.
 
Not going to blame Marner for Matthew's performance....but I would like to see what Auston looks like when he's not working with a guy allergic to the middle of the ice before writing him off as a playoff bitch too.

Hyman is still mystifying ffs...completely useless in the playoffs here, turned into a playoff stud in Edmonton.
 
No doubt Matthews and Marner being outperformed by everyone else is a big reason we never win. There is no reason they shouldn't be at the top of that list with McDavid, Mackinnon, Rantanen, Daraisaitl, Eichel, Aho, Point, Kucherov.

But signing Tavares killed the dream. Without that one move we keep Kadri and Hyman. We have the cap space to sign Peitro over Brodie. And we don't trade the Jarvis pick.

You just cant commit the same money that would buy 3 good players to one guy who sucks shit in the playoffs. Also why its tough to resign Mitch tho.
