Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

And yeah, Kadri ran himself out of town and personally sabotaged two separate playoffs. I loved the guy, but almost everyone was okay with the trade and nobody would’ve expected him to go on to do what he did.

Just like almost everyone thought Hyman got too much money and was going to physically break down soon after given his style of play.

Kadri was a selfish goofball here. We can't control what he does or doesn't do with another team. As a Leaf he was undisciplined and put himself ahead of his teammates. He only seems like some kind of goddamned hero because our top players are zombies and we want players who care.

same thing with Hyman. 5 goals in 30 playoff games in Toronto.

would be nice to come out on the better side of some of these stories for a change though
eh if Naz was a Bruin during those years he'd be widely celebrated.

he lost his cool but he was also punished for being brown, uppity, and a Leaf

Maybe it's not the players but the culture then. Hyman today is certainly not the Hyman who played for the Leafs and Im sure you can list at least a half dozen others who are doing with their new teams what they never did in Toronto. So maybe it's a team culture issue. Maybe, despite the supposed media and fan scrutiny, the Leafs are just a country club where defeat actually does rest lightly on their shoulders.

How else to explain the disparity in performance?

think it was for Brodie and Jankowski from CGY

I wouldn't call that incredible, but based on how Brodie played for an extended period after signing here a year later I would definitely categorize it as "good to very good" especially compared to Barrie/Kerfoot(barf).

In fairness, in the end, the trade really was kadri for Brodie and Kerfoot which was technically better than the trade that Kadri nixed.

But the idea was that kerf could replace much of what kadri brought. While being younger, cheaper and with cost certainty. That didn't go too well.

In hindsight, maybe you torch that year they were desperate for d and roll with shit ass d rather than forcing the acquisition of Barrie, who just made their d worse anyway. Then you sign Brodie in the offseason and have him and Kadri.

The original sin was obviously Tavares though. He forced them into these decisions.

No he wasn't. Is Ekblad the wrong shade of playoff intense for the Panthers? Should the Lightning trade Hagel?

Everyone loves gritty players that play on the edge.

Tis a skin colour comment.

My favourite bit was when Naz got suspended for hitting Wingels high immediately after he had hit Mitch in the head with an elbow with no call.

My favourite bit was when Naz got suspended for hitting Backes high immediately after Backes had hit Mitch in the head with an elbow with no call. The Backes elbow was as blatant as Kadri's retaliation.

The Kadri hit on Frederic that he got suspended for was also preceded by Naz getting rocked by a blatant knee-on-knee hit about 30 seconds prior that also got no call.
