Yeah, it is pretty funny that the Leafs specifically ended up with the most ruthless band of mercenaries in contract negotiations, all of whom demand the absolute high-end of their market value or more.

Even Knies seems to be right out of that mold too, considering he’s asking $8M+ on a long term deal after two seasons of 15 goals/35 points and 29 goals/58 points that he put up playing almost exclusively with two 100-point players on his line.

The lone exception is Rielly, who signed for max term and took less AAV than he probably could’ve demanded. And of course he’s the one guy who’s play falls off a cliff.

The tax issue is a huge one, but i think there needs to be an actual conversation about that how for alot of guys, they need to be paid extra to deal with the bullshit that comes with playing in a place like Toronto

South Florida is a nice place to live in comparison to most other NHL cities.

That shouldn’t be discounted as part of it for 20-something millionaires.
