Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

Whether true or not, the TSN guys said the other day that he didn't like the spotlight in Winnipeg and wasn't looking to play for another Canadian team. In any event, he'd be a fun regular season player, but likely smashed into a thousand pieces by Florida, so I'm fine with him going elsewhere.

Carolina still has $10M of space to spend after that and has their whole roster signed??
Yes.

The question will be "do they look to use that cap space before the season starts or do they hold onto it and look to make a big Rantanen type mid season trade?". I'm not sure which way this will go.

I'd say they're better off holding onto it because the team has good depth, probably competes for top spots in the division, and then can assess and add at the deadline.

I’m not upset at all about missing out on Ehlers at that price & term.

Don’t really see the sense in spending about 75% of what we’ve been spending on Mitch up to this point for one winger that’s basically a softer, significantly less talented version of Nylander, and who’s also afraid of the pressure of playing in a Canadian market.

Not just a Canadian market, fucking Winnipeg. I'd be more understanding if he just complained about living and playing in Winnipeg, but pressure? Pressure to what, win?

I'm sure we would have found a way to reframe it if he had signed here, but Ehlers is soft injury prone and doesn't score in the playoffs.

in fact, taking a closer look at his playoff numbers, he scored 5 of his 9 career playoff goals in 8 games this spring. So before that it was 4 goals in 37 games.

he'd have helped us in the regular season no doubt, but a soft perimeter winger probably isn't what we want to replace Marner with.

Love a hockey player who hates pressure and needs to hide away.

Marner, ROR, Ehlers are all fucking awesome.
So setting aside Marner who is absolutely a bitch.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with an athlete that views winning a cup in Carolina and winning a cup in Toronto as the same thing and wants absolutely nothing to do with the added pressure and being in the public eye.

Unfortunatly for the Leafs and Habs there are plenty of cities in the U.S. that can offer money and quality of life without the pitfalls

This is dumb. The player who thinks this is dumb
