Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

Prob'ly woulda been fun, but alls well that ends well. Ended up finally wandering over to Austria which, at the time, turned into a hella fun trip. 😊

Lots of people choose Edmonton. Toronto is a gridlocked shithole full of delusional Leafs fans. Edmonton has no traffic, lower taxes, cheaper gas, and ample free parking.

If or when McDavid leaves the Oilers, he's going to a US team in a tax free state that is seriously chasing a Cup. He's not staying in Canada and he sure as shit isnt going to Toronto just so MLSE can justify a huge bump in ticket prices while doing nothing of substance to try and win. Once he wins his Cup with one of the usual suspects (Florida, Tampa, Dallas, etc.) he may then decide to ease into retirement by being the designated over the hill "leadership" guy for the Leafs like so many before him have done.

Everybody playing it safe. McDavid is the best player in the league, he hasn't been able to win in Edmonton and has spent over a decade trying. The only reason they've ever come close to winning anything is McDavid himself, and the rest of the roster around him seems to be getting worse, and they never address the glaring issue of goaltending. So if it looks to be just another repeat of past years coming up, and then everyone is going to be getting old and falling off cliffs, why reup there?

Edmonton management has given him exactly zero reason to sign long term. And if he's smart, he takes this last shot to leave and play for a team and city of his choice. No reason to believe that'll be the Leafs though.
