Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

Matthews being vintage Matthews, McKenna having a blowout rookie year, and Cowan+Knies taking big steps forward can still make their forward group very good. I'm not bearish on any of them fwiw; lots of potential upside there. But Chayka gets no credit for that.

Is Tiny Keebler going to be with the Marlies next year or in Europe?

The latest update from the player himself was that he was going back to the SHL, though to a different team than the one he played with last year.

That was before he signed his ELC with the Leafs though. Don’t think there’s been any further update since on whether those plans have changed and he’s coming to North America.

Chayka deserves credit for not being suckered on Knies and holding on to him under what must have been considerable pressure

Yeah. I love his answer there. Acquiring depth is fine, acquiring depth with some actual upside is what the real winning teams do. Leafs got guys with clear absolute ceilings, and those ceilings are 4th liner. Maybe Paul could be a 3rd liner. That's it.

Sunny is awesome. Thinking in bets and also humble enough (underrated quality) to admit that sometimes you need luck for some of those bets to exceed expectations. Hughes said the same thing about Hutson (a bet that turned into a unicorn)

I get the sense from listening to Chayka that he has no modesty to him at all. Thinks very highly of himself. Idk how much that matters, but it sure makes him easily hateable now that I see clearly after his July 1st debacle. Congratulations to Steve Simmons (who, btw, loves him now after his moves yesterday).

The type of moves that derail an elite youth movement before it even gets off of the ground.

Learning to keep your betting chips in your pocket is a fucking super power

Hughes did fuck all yesterday but still had to answer questions for a half hour. He basically said: our core, especially Hutson and Demidov left big bags of money on the table. That puts pressure on me to spend it wisely. Today didn’t offer that opportunity. But it’s coming.

Self-created pressure from the looks of it. He seems to have blasted into the market looking to sell him off.
This seems pretty untrue to me. He has said he doesn't want to move him, and rumours suggest the price is crazy high. As has been explained many times, if you have to use him to get a true #1 d-man, you do it... But even there, if you believe the rumours he tried to do the deal without Knies.
