Kyle taking a swing on an elite 23 year old ahler. Sucked in the NHL last year but his on-ice s% was 4.72%. And his possession numbers were terrific.

I like the idea of bets like this, and you have to go that high on the aav to get the player to agree to the term. So if you believe that the floor for the player is 3rd liner, then it'll age well.
His production in the NHL last year was so so sooo bad tho, even if unlucky. Like even if things reverted to the mean, he wouldn't have gotten enough points to justify this deal.
He's basically the reverse Nick Robertson. Youngish with pathetic scoring rates and elite nerdies. Though he's at least a couple years younger than Big Dick Nick so maybe there's improvement to come with him and you're not just counting on a reversion to the mean.

Tldr: it's betting on a player to take a swing for value that yes, could easily fail. But it's aggressive and fun so sign me up!

Its like Buffalo inking Martin Samuelsson to an 8 year deal in the mid 4`s and now is a solid top 4D for the next 4 years on a bargain

Look I get the appeal of rolling the dice on a guy like this. And Dom's assessment of $3.4m of value suggests a 4 x 3.4 level of contract would make a lot of sense here...

Yeah that one got blasted at the time too. But of course that doesn't mean this one will work too. It's more that the hot takes right now are hard to take too seriously, unless you feel they're not in a position to take a risk like this. But mostly we'll just have to wait to find out.
