Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Philly has $4M cap space available, Sanheim still not signed coming off $3.25M AAV.

Will be interesting to watch play out - if Sanheim plays hardball & goes to arbitration with all the $ thrown at Dman...

Wonder if Philly would instead trade his rights if they can’t come to an amenable deal?

Unlikely. He's supposedly highly regarded by Flyers management. He's a very solid player.

Is America West Arena (or whatever corporate name it has now) still around or did it get bulldozed?

One thing's for certain, that 18000 seat arena in Quebec City isn't getting a hockey team as long as Gary Bettman and Jeremy Jacobs (and Geoff Molson, for that matter and despite what he says for public consumption) can still draw breath.

Maybe Winnipeg could support two teams.

That team has been a real drag since going to Arizona. Very little success, no profile, no identity. Anonymous. Despite having some decent players and Gretzky involved at various points.

It’s not Bettman & Jacobs - there’s absolutely zero business justification for a village, because that’s what Quebec City is, to get a professional NHL team. Pittance of corporate revenue to be had and a small TV audience vs Houston which is #8 and significantly larger than Mtl.

Before anyone goes there, only reason Jets got a team, is due to David Thomson’s influence (you know the richest person in Canada by a country mile) via True North, it’s not as of Desmarais is stepping up for Quebec City.

Move that team to downtown Phoenix or Scottsdale, and it will draw very well...the orgs being trying hard to get out of Glendale for a long time, they’ve finally bought their way out under the table it seems..

I thought the league wanted no part of Paladeau and Quebecor

I'll have to disagree. QC has developed a very nice tech sector and if Winnipeg could support a team they most certainly can.

Arizona will not move to the east though.

Again Winter-Peg only got a team because David Thomson is one of the richest & most influential people on this planet, without his financial backing of True North Sports, Winter-Peg doesn’t get a team back. If Paul Desmarais Jr fund$ QC team, Bettman & Jacobs will personally roll out the red carpet for Les Nordiques, but he won’t since he’s on record as saying he’s got no interest in sports

Quebec City might have a cute little tech sector but the key word is “little”, it’s not Silicon Valley tech sector or Seattle tech sector, or Houston oil & gas industry BIG as in large population w significant after tax disposable income.

Equally important, greater Quebec City’s population is tiny when compared to top-25 US TV markets, let alone #8 in Houston
