Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Beer is cheaper at the football games. I don't drink when I go to hockey games unless it's at a bar before the game. I won't pay $14 for a pint Molson Canadian. I can drink my own piss for free.
Most people tailgate here anyway and are hammered already when they walk in. Then you pump water for the first period (or quarter / half), then next intermission is game on. Then water. You buy 2 beers inside.

Fun stuff.

My elks were 100 a piece. Total of $294 for 3 of us. I just get nosebleeds and then sit wherever I want.

Paid $212 for one first round game. Upper bowl, front row. Cannot really justify it. I pay the 5 bucks for the watch party and the wife enjoys those.
My Elks ticket is in the lower bowl in the northwest corner near the top. I'm under the upper deck overhang where it's shady, dry and close to the concessions and the washrooms.

I was told by the season ticket rep that this season they will be getting a little more strict about not letting people sit in seats they didn't pay for and access to the Quarterback Club and Jackie Parker Lounge will be restricted to season ticket holders. It's always been the rule but it was never enforced at least not since I started going to games there in 2018. I just wandered in and no one stopped me. Now it's going to be policed and it makes sense. How do you sell someone on the perqs of being a season ticket holder if something like access to what is supposed to be a lounge reserved for season ticket subscribers is open to all? There's no value added. But Victor is slowly turning things around there.

Yeah the Elks, in addition to the tailgates, have a pre-game beer garden just outside the stadium where you can get $5 cans of beer to get jacked up. But even inside they don't rape you at the concession stand like Katz and the Oilers do.

All nhl arenas do it. They make more off concession and parking than ticket sales. That's why some municipalities, like Sunrise actually, gave them their arena but kept concession and parking for 10 years. It was basically fronting the cash and making back more. And they did.

I don't know why other cities don't do that. You want a "free" arena? Sure thing. We keep the ancillaries to every event for a decade and you get your arena with no money out of pocket.

Or do what I do for football and bring a mickey
I used to do that when I'd go to see the Habs play the Canucks. I'd hide the mickey down my pants, the one spot that the security guards don't dare frisk. Then I'd buy a Coke from the concession stand, go to the washroom, dump out most of the Coke and empty the mickey into the paper cup. Shit, one year I even bought tickets in the no alcohol section and did this.

But if the Habs came to town on a Saturday the place would be mobbed with Habs fans from all over BC so I'd usually be hammered at the Shark Club before I staggered over to the arena to heap abuse on Canucks fans.

One year, I printed off about 1000 handbills with a "This is your brain/This is your brain on drugs" with the Habs and Canucks logos and handed them out to random people in and around the arena. I saw one of them shown later that night on the local 11pm news.

Of course, trolling Canucks fans used to be easier because the Habs always shit-pumped them when they came to town. Then, the late 90's and early 2000's happened.

I'll tell you why. Because team owners aren't stupid. Part of the deal, in addition to all that free taxpayer money, is control of all the revenue streams. That's literally the reason for the arena in the first place. At most they allow the city a cut of parking and concessions but never the full pie.

Florida did not let their foot off the gas, the Leafs changed their system from stretch to tight. Different gaps were used and they were way way way better than the first three games. They played as a team and won as a team. That was your difference in game 4. Now can they repeat that discipline 3 more times is the question for me.
Well, you know the Florida team better than me for sure. And the Leafs did adjust their game for sure. However, Florida looked like a different team to me regardless, passing was off, intensity was down, and I don't think we would have seen that if team was not up 3-0. It was to be expected.

Then the answer is no
Whenever the taxpayers are asked to kick in public funds to pay for stadiums and arenas owned by billionaires, where profits are private while debts, costs and risks are held by the public the answer should always be no. A better answer would be "Go fuck yourselves" but a simple "No" should suffice.

Wehave only has this extra free spending money because, despite his views that taxes are way too low and the rich need to be bent over badly taxation wise, he lives in the lowest tax province in the country and where his gas prices are about 2/3 what the rest of us pay. He has no provincial sales tax either. He is benefiting financially from Alberta right wing fascism

Waiting to here the problem? I did the same only with sun and sand. His agent told him Athabasca was a beach. 🤷‍♂️

you though have never claimed that you want us all to be taxed more and that taxes are too low. Your position is consistent. Wehave is a walking contradiction
