Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

All nhl arenas do it. They make more off concession and parking than ticket sales. That's why some municipalities, like Sunrise actually, gave them their arena but kept concession and parking for 10 years. It was basically fronting the cash and making back more. And they did.

I don't know why other cities don't do that. You want a "free" arena? Sure thing. We keep the ancillaries to every event for a decade and you get your arena with no money out of pocket.
The elks and Oilers outsource food and beverage. Elks don't have parking. Oilers outsource it. So depending on what the deal is they might not make much more.

Wehave only has this extra free spending money because, despite his views that taxes are way too low and the rich need to be bent over badly taxation wise, he lives in the lowest tax province in the country and where his gas prices are about 2/3 what the rest of us pay. He has no provincial sales tax either. He is benefiting financially from Alberta right wing fascism
No I have more money for 2 reasons: cheaper real estate and a higher than average wage, both of which have more to do with living in a non-tourist city that is twice the size of Vancouver with half the population than the lack of a sales tax or slightly cheaper gas.

The lack of a sales tax is why the potholes here don't get filled which is why my car needs a wheel realignment that it wouldn't need in Vancouver.

but the low tax means you save more than you would with your higher than average wage, if you were here paying 7% on everything and higher gas, even at the same wage, by definition, you would have less discretionary spending. You would be wise to vote UCP this month,

But I'd still have more discretionary income than if I were in BC where white collar labor is a buyer's market.

Yes and no.

30 cents a L cheaper on gas.

Depending on how much he makes the provincial income tax isn't much different . I'm 1 percent less.

True no sales tax because we are really stupid. We got that oil though.

Of course unregulated insurance and utilities is through the roof. And of course the ticket tax. And private healthcare, etc

not like we don't get rammed in the ass here re tickets, and we have no fault insurance, brutal other costs,

although I will say, after the last 3 years of shit, private healthcare doesn't seem so bad

My hydro bill is a fraction of what it was in BC

Hard to believe any team that has a line of Staal-White-Dalpe is even in the Cup chase. Like something we would have iced in the early 2000s.

I'll credit them for actually playing.
