Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

These playoffs once again prove hockey is the ultimate TEAM game - NBA blueprint of superstars surrounded by stiffs doesn’t work.

Was really pulling for McDavid to win - class act who doesn’t whine & bitch deserves better than what Oilers org has been able to cultivate around him. Gotta believe he’s gonzo in 3-years
No secondary scoring at all. Nuge and Hyman were complete non-factor outside of the PP, and so was the rest of the team. You need 4 lines to contribute.

I wouldn't say that Hyman was a non-factor. He was grinding, going into the dirty areas. He was noticeable. Nuge was invisible.

You also need your defense and goaltending to not shit the bed. Nurse was on the ice for all 4 goals last night and was chiefly responsible for the fact that those pucks went in. He stands around and watches like a paying spectator, not a participant. He may have the worst contract in hockey. Worse than Gallagher.

And while I think Skinner showed promise he is not ready for prime time, especially in the playoffs. It is clear that Woodcroft has no confidence in Campbell but Campbell was the guy they brought in to be their playoff goalie and in the limited action he had he did well. Woodcroft should have started him last night but his only thought was whether to have 29 playing with 97 or not from one shift to the next. He was outcoached and the sub .900 goaltending sealed their fate.

It’s gonna happen.
The Leafs will do what they always do: they'll wait until McDavid is in his mid-30's and then overpay for him in money and term just like they did with Tavares. And if they don't win within 2-3 years they'll just be eating the contract for the remaining 4 or 5 years like they're doing with Tavares.

You don’t need to steal 1-2 games per series, you mostly need to not cost your team. No idea why they didn’t go with Campbell either, Skinner was truly struggling.

Goalies are hit miss this time of the year , WTF is a Hill that took an injury to get him in the lineup

Campbell was indicted. Despite the rookie goalie struggling, they stayed with him instead of Campbell.

It doesn't just speak volumes, it's yelling.

Until Deadmonton becomes something more than a 3 player team, they're dead in the water.

The roster construction over there has been beyond laughable. Their hopes of winning start & end with, let's hope McDavid & Draisaitl outscore the other team!

They're like the Leafs. A very, very good assembly of high-end forwards, one good defenseman and whatever the fuck you call those players in net.

The Nurse & Campbell contracts are further examples why albatross contracts are far more destructive than bad drafting.

You can't mess up the contracts. They will kill your team. Those two contracts will single-handedly assure Deadmonton won't ever win anything.

Yes, I came on to say two things. One, that I'm glad I won't have to watch Nurse skating away from the Edmonton net after a goal has been scored anymore this year, and two, to say I thought Woodcroft was outcoached. You've covered that ground.

Agree on Skinner/Campbell as well.

And look at what good it did them. Grubauer and Bobrovsky are two other examples of players not playing even close to the level their contracts entails that performed well in those playoffs. Goalies man, you just never know.
