Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

Rolex is a dentist...so he qualifies. Might have to stick around for 3 periods tho...as part of the deal

Anyone listen to this weeks Ray and Dreg’s podcast? made some comments on revenue and free agency:

Dreger talked to a major market team:

-their last year’s revenue was at 80% of normal

-their forecasted revenue this season is 40% of normal

-Ray and Dreger said they believe it could be a real dark time for free agents next season

-they see lower salaries and lower term again next offseason

-Ray talked to a couple of GM’s and they told him it is probably 3-5 years before this gets back to where the NHL was (pre-pandemic)

Fantastic news for Habs if accurate, UFAs and players w NTC/NMC will not have many (if any other) options.

The pandemic has saved MBs GM career, and could propel him to greater things..

A French interview with Lucien Deblois, former Hab and former Vancouver scout, as they talk about drafting Elias Pettersson in 2017.

Interesting take....
Well it’s more than a coincidence that all U.S teams safe VGK for Pietrangelo were crickets past offseason.

Living here in Bruins country, no one even knows NHL is playing, but everyone know Mets GM sexting..

The Habs biggest competition for talent are the US teams, if they enter the mental masturbation phase (which they seem to have)....good news for Habs fans

This will take 3-5 years to get back to normalcy

The billions in losses are future adjusted , whatever escrow etc.. doesnt make up will be made up in future caps

The cap is a year advanced based on the previous year

2020 was somewhat bad , 2021 is brutal that converts to to the 2022 cap and so on

Many USA based teams are fuked revenue wise , they were strapped prior to Covid

Bailouts will be required

This is going to continue

the fine is a joke. NBA did what, almost 700k$ in fine and a draft pick?

The biggest punishment is that the capitals will continue to play without Ovy, Samsonov and Kuznetsov for 14 days. That is bound to piss off management there.

Dubois's pulling a page out of the James Harden book of tricks. I'm gonna loaf around and not get hurt until you trade me.

(He just forgot to party it up on social media, hit the Atlanta strip clubs and come in the camp 25 pounds overweight from his off-season diet of cola and burgers)

Yeah been reading all that on Twitter. He’s going to give himself a bad reputation if he doesn’t smarten up.

Too bad for CBJ that he’s not Harden-quality and won’t fetch the kind of haul that that Houston got.

And here I had Columbus going to the finals before this all blew up. I'm not one who takes the side of management, but I blame Dubois. Not sure I want him now. Reminds me of Duchesne.

Crazy to think these athletes can play this way when they are being paid millions and teammates are relying on you. But I guess the next team he goes to will offer an extension and more security. Otherwise what he is doing now is more harm than good.

So when does CBJ fire Torts?

To me, Torts is painting himself in a corner he won't be able to go out of. He went on radio to confirm that Dubois asked out. Then, force Dubois to make a speech in front of all his teammates about it.

There is a pattern here. Good players don't want to stay in Columbus. Panarin and Bobrovski didn't stay. Rumours is that Dubois asked what was the plan with the franchise, if they were expected to keep important players like Jones and Werensky were going to be resigned long-term. He was told this didn't concern him. So apparently, he refused to sign long-term and be stuck as the only good player left without insurance. This created the friction and lead to Dubois asking out.

At some point, you wonder, is Columbus such a horrible place to live because, obviously, players, if given a chance, as asking out and obviously, free agent don't want to go there. So it's Columbus or people just don't want to play for Torts? Seems the GM loves Torts so if I'm the owner, it would get me thinking. Who is best for this franchise? Dubois, Jones and Werensky, or Torts? Seems to me, the decision would be easy.
