I think it’s an easy decision too. Hint: it’s not Torts. To me, Torts is painting himself in a corner he won't be able to go out of. He went on radio to confirm that Dubois asked out. Then, force Dubois to make a speech in front of all his teammates about it.
There is a pattern here. Good players don't want to stay in Columbus. Panarin and Bobrovski didn't stay. Rumours is that Dubois asked what was the plan with the franchise, if they were expected to keep important players like Jones and Werensky were going to be resigned long-term. He was told this didn't concern him. So apparently, he refused to sign long-term and be stuck as the only good player left without insurance. This created the friction and lead to Dubois asking out.
At some point, you wonder, is Columbus such a horrible place to live because, obviously, players, if given a chance, as asking out and obviously, free agent don't want to go there. So it's Columbus or people just don't want to play for Torts? Seems the GM loves Torts so if I'm the owner, it would get me thinking. Who is best for this franchise? Dubois, Jones and Werensky, or Torts? Seems to me, the decision would be easy.
