Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

He’s had like 5 concussions in the last 5 years.
Trev: Hey Matt I have a few option for you

Matt: What up Trev

Trev: Your being bought out and lose 1/3 of your pay over 2 seasons , or Robidas Island , collect your 8 mil and relax

Matt : Trev we are good bro , lets grab a tee time in September at the Abbey

Or a concussion specialist told him risking a 6th concussion in 6 years is absolutely batshit and this way he gets paid out instead of just retiring.

Everyone made fun of this guy’s ability to stay healthy and now they’re doubting he’s injured? I wouldn’t blink twice if this was how Gallagher went out.

CTE is very real. Could he play? Maybe but so could Price. The question is should he play. Price shouldn’t if he wants to walk with his wife and kids. Murray is now going through this realization. It was a bad signing from the get go but if memory serves, Ottawa is paying some of the freight.

The way Gally plays at 110% every shift , his body was shot at 28

He can still play but will bounce from one injury to the next , he needs a Swiss 40 game season

Murray like most players will gut it out

This is part injury and Leafs getting cap relief

Two things can be true at the same time.

It could be that Matt Murray is beyond repair because of his history of concussions & whatever other injuries he's had, despite being ready to play in the playoffs should his name have been called.

It also could be that Toronto was more than happy to put him on LTIR to circumvent the cap and not have to worry about his contract status anymore, the same way Deadmonton was more than happy to put Mike Smith on LTIR despite playing every single game in the playoffs for them and not having an injury to lean on.

I don't blame Toronto for doing this. It's a bad rule that has been exploited for years by teams throughout the league. If the NHL isn't going to fix the loophole, it's in Toronto's best interest to take full advantage.

The same way Tampa Bay had Kucherov on LTIR for a full season before having him magically healed for the playoffs, idem for Las Vegas and Mark Stone. The rules are fucking stupid and weren't fully thought out, and the good teams are taking advantage of it? Good on them.

All of them finished the season "healthy". I was calling out the healthy enough to play.

To assume a guy with his concussion history is healthy is weird.

I promise you Weber and price would have played game 6 of the SCF.
We didn't put our #1 G and #1 D on LTIR for cap savings purposes. Montreal was planning to ice a roster with them in it. There isn't any room for Murray in that lineup.

I don't blame the Leafs though, same trick has been used by all the teams in the league.

That is a separate thing.

I'm not talking about that.

Buddy said Murray was healthy. Just because you are cleared to play doesn't mean you are healthy. See: Price, Weber

Clear cut cap circumvention by Leafs and Murray. Better get looked into. He was and is healthy enough to play
So are Price and Weber

Added the bold to clarify.
Price and Weber like Murray are probably healthy enough to play hockey if they want to play on pain (as price and weber did) with potentially fucking up your life.

I'd actually argue that brain injuries are worse than a foot and knee.

As for why the leafs did and why the Habs did it. I get it, understand it, and am fine with it.

Leafs are delighted to place him on LTIR

Price was horrible when he came back from the surgeries, he can't play anymore. He can't even walk up stairs carrying his little kids.

Makar is probably the most significant name on the roster, but there are other notables. We can probably assume that Max Comptois is one, since he can't get a gig right now. Possibly Carter Hart as well.

And really, league suspensions should be the least of it. There should be criminal charges brought against these idiots and they should all be banned for life from the NHL, even the elite players.
