Bergevin, Timmins and Paul Wilson relieved of duties; Jeff Gorton hired as EVP

I’m expecting the diversity hire to be either Emily Castonguay (agent) or Caroline Ouellette (Stingers coach) - depending on org direction. & need:

contracts/negotiation vs tactical on ice hockey ops

Bingo. And that's the key question he avoided answering.

He was asked who has final decision, and declined to say one way or another because there's going to be two of them making the calls.

Jeff Gorton will have final say and the GM won't. The GM will be some likeable French speaking guy with ultimately minimal power.
Geoff's equivocation on the subject was as good as a straight answer as far as I'm concerned. Gorton calls the tune and the GM, whoever they hire, dances to it.

the GM is going to be what asst GMs are for most teams

lol wtf is this diversity? Is that how we are going to be hiring now? Can't we just get the best people for the job, this isn't the liberal government.

If what "diversity" means to Geoff is simply signaling their corporate virtue by hiring a token minority or woman, if all it means is ticking a box, then whoever they hire will do nothing and accomplish nothing but a photo op. But if they actually care about becoming diverse, then they need to use the front offices in Laval and Trois Rivieres as their proving ground. Practice your diversity hiring there and groom them to one day make the leap to the NHL. But don't just hand them a job they haven't earned and aren't qualified to do well simply so you can fill a quota. If you do that you are setting the person up to fail and you are giving their detractors ammunition to say that "these types of people" just aren't any good.

We all saw what happened when this franchise fired an experienced GM and an experienced coach and replaced them with two guys who had never managed or coached at any level of hockey before, right? Remember how that turned out? Yeah. So let's not start handing out NHL front office jobs to Caroline Ouellet or Georges Laracque just because they allow us to tick a couple of boxes. By all means hire them if you want, but make them earn it. Let them learn their craft in the minors, out of the spotlight, and mentor them into one day becoming competent NHL executives.

There is still an Assistant GM, Scouting Director and Comms VP to be hired.

Based on Molson's comments at PC, a full rebuild is on the table. Right time to do it with Shane Wright, Connor Bedard, and that Russian super kid on the map the next three drafts,
There's still a GM to hire a well. This is to be a two headed hydra.
