Boom! Signed!

The original tweet has been deleted. So it may be much ado about nothing. But it is taking forfreakingever to get this done.

I'm complaining* about it knowing that it's probably blowing smoke, but at this point I just can't fathom why he isn't signed that isn't incredibly stupid.

I edited out a wordy dirty

I'm just too old for fake outrage I guess. We all know it's some wrinkle or another and that it'll get sorted out.

This wee wrinkle feels more like a pattern than a finer points issue. We have an owner who likes to
get involved and leverage his position as much as he can. I don’t doubt it will get done, but sometimes I think the Hurricanes prolong these things in a way that doesn’t make sense. If it can be fixed, then fix it and be done.

BTW, his US-based agent has stepped up and poured cold water on the Russian agent's take on things. Again, there's something to see here, but it's nothing all that alarming to the adults. Big shock.

It really sounds like there's nothing to see here. However, our conclusion about Nikishin not being eligible to play a playoff game for the Wolves must be incorrect...

Issue is now moot with the Wolves season being over.

Apparently, he could play in the AHL playoff if he was on a PTO contract directly with the Wolves. Which would mean he couldn't be signed to an NHL contract. I'm gonna guess the delay was down to confirming this with the AHL and/or getting a number the Wolves and Nikishin could agree on ... with the understanding that his NHL signing bonus would be delayed.

Bottom line ... I'm not sure what was to be gained from all this, but this front office loves to keep it complicated.
