Do they have a deeper system? Don't we have a stacked AHL team? and standouts in other leagues?
 
As for more ready to win, I think the main thing Tampa has that we don't is Victor Hedman.

And it would kind of suck to see them scoop McDonagh and then face us in round 1. Or Boston doing the same thing.

Hedman is kinda a big differential.

And while yes it would suck for Toronto if Tampa landed McDonough i dont think that affects their ability and movitation to get him

right but my point is that Toronto with an added Mcdonagh is much closer to Tampa with Hedman and no McDonagh
 
McDonaugh is not gonna come cheap, as he's a legit top 3 D who is signed to a reasonable contract for a player who is still very much in his prime.
 
I don't see the Leafs doing much at the deadline. I can see them moving players that can't crack the lineup.

There's no way the leafs should sacrifice a huge chuck of the future to "make a splash" at the deadline. The best the Leafs should do is deal fringe players for some picks. This is a hugely young core and to see them succeed together I'm thinking the team would like to include a player that hasn't won anything yet. Adding an oft-injured grump like Weber would kill team chemistry. And no to Karlsson. The Leafs already have fleet footed dmen, we need size, strength, defensive stability, and a right hand shot. The Leafs true need is an imposing force on the blueline (RHD). And I don't just mean a bruiser we need someone that can do it all, just a smart brooding imposing force. Seth Jones could be that guy. Maybe Doughty but wait until he's UFA don't deal the futures.

Seth Jones would be the only guy I would deal a huge chunk of future for. Maybe a Willy + Rielly for Jones and a pick.

Other than that, let the Leafs core take their lumps in this postseason. No rush in dealing futures. Unless it was dealing Rielly to Vancouver for their 1st round pick in 2020.

I think we've been through the advanced stats and usage and he doesn't belong in the #1D category, I think it's arguable he belongs in the #2 spot but he'd make a competent #3 on a good team.

he's definitely a #1 defenceman.

zeke has it pegged right.
 
He's gonna cost a pretty penny and the Rangers are only interested in high value futures. Doesn't seem like a good fit organizationally and according to the Shanaplan. He's a two year rental as well.
 
I think they almost have to do something to clean up the Sosh/Leivo/Martin/Moore/etc issues.
I feel like we try to get some veteran presence, and we package something so we give more players than we get.

I don't believe they will try to move Bozak or JVR.
 
What is a team like Tampa or Boston going to give up that would make the Leafs have to give up a player like Liljegren. I don't see Tampa/Boston giving up Sergachev or McAvoy.

I suspect Martin will be moved....probably back to the Islanders. Huge fan favorite there, they can re-united that fourth line. Maybe an extra piece from us going for them to take the contract off our hands & a body coming our way.

Dominic Moore is likely to be waived if/when we inevitably deal for a 4C upgrade as well.

Think if we deal for a Hjalmarsson type (who is as much a Babcock player as anyone, he'd be creaming himself if we got him Richardson. )....Carrick likely goes the other way.
